I don't know what to do now. I've already narrowed it down to two schools, but first here's all my choices:

Purdue University - Admitted to engineering
Ohio State University - Admitted to engineering
University of Missouri - Columbia
University of Missouri - Rolla
University of Indiana - Bloomington - Admitted to business
St. Louis College of Pharmacy - Admitted to pharmacy

I had 3.2 GPA, 1890 SAT, no ec's, from India (I live in Missouri).

I'm planning on doing chemical engineering as an undergraduate and completing an MBA as a graduate. I've narrowed it down to Purdue and Rolla. I'm sure many of you have to make a similar choice; here's how it weights out:

Purdue
Out of state
$128000 for 4 years - Excluding financial aid
300 miles away from home
30000 Students - 50% male, 50% female
Lots of partying

13 Chemical Engineering program in nation

Prestigious

Rolla
In state
$64000 for 4 years - Excluding financial aid
75 miles away from home
5000 Students - 80% male, 20% female
Not as much partying I'm assuming..

67 Chemical Engineering program in nation

Not prestigious

Based on these statistics, which seems like the better choice? Does the undergraduate college have an important influence when applying for a job? I was told by a friend that your graduate degree is what matters; however in my case, I won't be getting a graduate degree in engineering, so which is a better idea? I would most likely go to a very high ranked business school if I went to Rolla, but I would probably stay at Purdue for business if I went there.

GUYS PLEASE I'M BEGGING YOU HELP ME OUT I'M NOT SCREAMING THIS IS AN ATTENTION GETTER! Thanks in advance

definitely purdue. Also, purdue will not be a party school if you do engineering. You will be working your butt off and will have no time outside of school. My dad did ee at purdue so i know a lot about it.

I understand that Purdue is obviously the better school, but when considering that it's only the undergraduate program, and that it costs twice as much for the same major, is it really worth it? My parents will end up paying 13k a year for Purdue, which will really break their bank. If I went to Rolla they wouldn't even break a sweat. However, they said that they will do what they must; they won't not send me to Purdue because of financial issues. I just don't know if it's worth it.

Well actually I don't know if I got into Kelley yet.. actually now that I think about it, I doubt it. I just got a confirmation over email. I want to do chemical engineering, gain a few years of experience and work towards my MBA at the same time so by the time I'm near 30 I can move into management positions dealing with engineering firms.

The engineering ---> MBA thing is a fine plan. College is a financial burden for most families and it is difficult for us to help you decide which is the better choice for your family's particular situation; you also didnt mention the ACTUAL cost for each for your family, just the total before financial aid. In the end, you could help your parents out and take on some of the financial burden - 20K in loans for an engineering student is no biggie at all. I really think you should consider going to Purdue. You will end up making more $$ to pay off those loans - plus a much better city.

I agree with Kcirsch, you could step up and take out some loans or shoulder the financial burden of loans they would take out in your behalf. After graduation, your income should permit you do that for them. I'd go for the better school, but definitely take the burden off of them.

If you are sure you want to major in Engineering, Purdue would be the way to go. If you are open to majoring in Business, I would go with Indiana. As an overall undergraduate experience, Indiana is far and away the best school in your list.

Well my family income is around 65k a year, from a single parent. I just visited Purdue today and I really liked the campus; it was exactly what I pictured, and more. I really want to go there, but I don't know how much we can take loans for. I heard I am only eligible for stafford and parent loans, if I remember correctly. Is it relatively easy to get a 20k loan though? If so, how would I go about doing that?
