I am planning on attending Rutgers Newark for 1 year and i will major in Biology. Is there a way for me to enroll in Rutgers Newark for 1 year, and then transfer to Rutgers New Brunswick?

why not just go to new brunswick in the first place? lol

yeah you can make an internal transfer, but why not just start off at new brunswick?

i would start off in New Brunswick, but i want to stay close with my family for a while, i just want to spend a little more time with them.

yea you can switch after one year no problem

yeah, just make sure you maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

I never understood why people want to transfer to New Brunswick.
Is the education better there, I would assume any Rutgers
institution is equal in the eyes of the employer =/

Does it show up or something if you went to Rutgers-Camden/New Brunswick
or Newark?

I guess people like New Brunswick because they claim that it is a bit more selective than Newark or Camden, hence the people who perform better “academically” go to New Brunswick(from what I’ve heard). I don’t think that’s true. I’ve run into a lot of imbeciles on the NB/Piscataway campus. And the way I see it, Rutgers is Rutgers no matter what campus you go to. The only difference is size, city, and individual schools (Newark and Camden doesn’t have, say, the pharmacy school like NB)

However, I will say that the reason why I prefer New Brunswick better:
(1) It’s the MAIN campus and largest campus (I like the “bigness” of New Brunswick/Piscataway for some reason), and different campuses.
(2) Bigger and more resources, academic wise and even activity-wise in terms of clubs and such.
(3) I live 20 minutes from Newark. My parents would have forced me to commute if I had applied to the Newark campus 0_o uhh…nope.

It is different. Just because they have the same name doesn’t mean it’s the same education. From what I hear, the classes at Camden are a lot easier and people who get D’s in biology at NB get A’s there. What I put on my resume is New Brunswick because employers know the difference between the two schools and how competitive each one is.

But to answer your question, it’s fine to do what you’re doing. If you want to go to Newark for personal reasons and then transfer it’s ok because it only matters what school you graduate from (most of the time).

Eh. Well, if you say so. . . =]

The Newark Campus is great, though. At this point, maybe you’re better off not going to New Brunswick at the moment. I’m starting to get fed up with it as time goes on -_-

colboy is absolutely correct. Ever heard of University of Texas? It branches out into 8-9 different schools and they are all ranked differently and treated like individual schools albeit they are all called University of Texas. Employers will treat students who went to Utexas of Austin more favorably than students who went to Utexas of Dallas. Likewise, whenever Rutgers is ranked, “New-Brunswick” is always attached to it.

Do employees really care if you went to Rutgers in New Brunswick or Rutgers in Newark? 0_0

I thought both were reputable. I mean, I know New Brunswick is hailed as academically higher than Newark (as per my peers).

I didn’t think it would matter, but I guess . . . yes?

Are they listed differently on diplomas?

College is college. What you make of it is up to you. I’m a Junior at Rutgers Newark and I’m glad I chose to come here. The location is convenient and accessible. As per the comparison to New Brunswick, the more selective school is obviously New Brunswick but that doesn’t qualify it as “better”. Rutgers Newark beat out Harvard & Northwestern for the Federal Reserve challenge last year. We also placed first in the Johnson & Johnson national challenge last year and second this year… New Brunswick didn’t come close…just my 2 cents

i want to apply to rutgers new brunswick too. what did you get on your act/SAT test? what was your gpa? i really want to go here and i hope i’m accepted.

Mushaboom, I don’t think it’s fair to say New Brunswick as a whole isn’t better academically on the basis of you having run into imbeciles. There will be imbeciles regardless of where you attend college, even in top ten schools and in any major.

I won’t even try to compare anything because I know next to nothing about Newark, however, the OP’s question hasn’t even been answered. Yes, there is a way to transfer and it happens all the time. [Rutgers Undergraduate Admissions - School-to-School Transfer](Rutgers Undergraduate Admissions - School-to-School Transfer) That should be a good resource, but definitely check that the credits you take will transfer if you are sure you will be transferring. (I have heard that this is less of a problem if you transfer from Newark to NB than from Camden to NB, but Rutgers does get all annoying if you don’t double/triple-check.)

Just do the necessary legwork so you don’t get screwed over and good luck with your first year of college!
