i got an F at a ccc [not the one im attending however]

im going to be applying to colleges and i got an F in one class that i regrettably forgot to drop. is it mandatory that i send that F to the colleges im applying to?

the F was at a diffrent community college that i am currently attending.

I’m surprised how many times people ask this…
I’ll answer your question with a question.

Why didn’t you repeat it?

i repeated it at the community college that im attending
but at the other one it still shows a big fat F

I got an F and a D at the first CC I attended and still got in to Berkeley.

Don’t worry about the grade. If anything it will show how you’ve grown as a student and a person at your new CC.

“Don’t worry about the grade. If anything it will show how you’ve grown as a student and a person at your new CC.”

I’m sorry but that is just awful advice. About the only thing an F will show is that you got an F in community college. What you need to do is provide a clear explanation as to what happened. There is an area on the UC application specifically for such circumstances.

Well of course you would need to provide an explanation. Isn’t that kind of straight forward?

In terms of actual admission, I don’t believe the grade will hurt him as long as he has shown a strong upward academic trend.

if you repeat at a different community college they dont take it off your record? If you would have taken it at the same community college then they would have? That sounds stupid. I didnt know that eiether. I am going to try to get academic renewal for my F at my previous community college…maybe you can get it too?

You need to take your official transcript to the college where you got the F. They should have a form that you fill out showing that you repeated the same course somewhere else. They will be able to re-calculate your GPA there to not inculde the F grade. HOWEVER, it will still show on your transcript.

Yes, you do have to report it. Just explain what happened and that the same course was repeated for a better grade.

Rwasko-No, they can’t just take it off your record. They can make a notation on your transcript that it was repeated elsewhere and strike it from your GPA. In other words, it won’t affect your GPA, but the F will still be visible.

are you asking if the there is anway that the colleges you get accepted to will find out about this F? lol cause ive kind of wondered that too. a girl i know is attempting to hide about 3 Fs from a previous cc to any university she gets accepted to

Thank you KC_sunshine. I swear you give the best damned advice on this entire website. No joke. YOu are awesome. I knew it wouldnt be taken off completely. I am ok with it if it stays on there as long as it isnt calculated in my GPA. I also am going to try to academic renewal for it to make it look a little better.

I had a W in another community college, do I still have to report that one?

Rwasko-Thank you for the nice compliment and good luck to you!

Njoy-The girl you know is seriously setting herself up for failure. There is a computer system that schools use and they most definitely CAN tell if someone is lying and they will rescind. She is not going to be happy when that happens to her. It is still possible to get into a good Uni with a couple bad marks. I had a D from not dropping a class correctly, repeated the course, got an A, and was accepted to UCLA and UCB. I also had 12 (yes, TWELVE) Ws from 10 years ago. Be honest and sincere and you will prevail.

Noob-Yes, you most definitely do need to report that W.

I have a similar question…

If I received 2 F’s at a different CC over 3 years ago, must it still be reported?
(I repeated one course at my current CC for a B and the other I’m signed up for a similar Bio course for this fall)

This maybe a stupid question, but if you don’t report attendance at a particular cc, how would a UC discover you were ever a student there?

Incredible how many times people ask this. Please use the search function on this page.

And to answer the above question: [National Student Clearinghouse: Degree verification & enrollment verification](http://www.studentclearinghouse.org/)

pwned! Just be freakin honest! Lying gets you rescinded!

i wonder how many grades go unreported and they find out after the person graduates? but anyway, always be upfront about grades

If they find out after a degree has been awarded that degree is rescinded, and they notify graduate programs or employers to which you requested they send transcripts. Lying about your grades is academic dishonesty, something colleges take very seriously.

If I took college courses in high school and those grades are on my HS transcript, do I still need to send those college grades to my school?

I took a health course ‘online’ but my HS counselor did everything for me. It was an ‘online’ course but all the material was done on paper… And I don’t know which college I took that course on. So I’m in a bit of trouble here. :T
