I recently got accepted with a full presidential scholarship to HAMPTON U. Yesterday i was caught coming back from lunch at my high school, and they are strict on leaving campus for lunch. As i was in the office they decided to search me and they found a half on me. Currently i am suspended for 10 days and recommdation for explusion. i have to go to court for hearing if i can come back or not. What are my chances of hampton finding out about this as well as me coming back to school. If they do kick me out, how would this effect my chances of a full ride. PLease help me out.

Have fun at Community College.

WHAt?? you gotta be kidding me. Im not facing any charges b/c i told them who i got it from, so its just whether or not im back in School.

Well ask them if they are reporting it to hampton U.

You should have given up your dealer for them signing a non disclosure agreement.

You should have asked for an attorney and kept your mouth shut probably until you got an attorney. this is not one of those situations where you just give up any information.

if they tell hampton U- i would assume they would rescind your admission

Are you 18?

Get a lawyer.

Why would they search you . . . that policy sucks.

DougBetsy, based on the “92” in the UserName, I doubt it.

Another question though. Are you a ■■■■■?

You might be a ■■■■■, but if not then the school has every right to search you.
You are going into a public place, and in school your rights are decreased for the good of all. It is the law, and precedent. If you go to court, the cases that came before you all have this ruling. Your school is strict, so they have all probable cause esp because your students migh have been dealing.

So i am sorry, but there is little you can do.

next time put it under the sole of your shoe, noob

scrub, if you knew you might have gotten searched, of course keep it in your car. you brought it on your person… lmao noob

Wait…you snitched on your dealer? It was your fault you got caught…no need to blame the dealer.

You deserve it for polluting a learning environment. Seriously, what kind of idiot brings Marijuana to SCHOOL? Go smoke it in your garage or something if you’re going to do it. What, were you going to smoke it in class?

Hope that they don’t report it since you gave them the name of your dealer. You should have made them SIGN a document, though.

If they don’t report it, you might be OK.

If they report it, you’re SCREWED.

I actually just read some common questions through cc on the “College Admissions” tab that have statements from actual Dean of Admissions stating that they have indeed dealt with this subject many times. I know they expect you to be honest, but they also seemed to have an understanding that people make mistakes and especially in the high school years.

I would suggest figuring out what college you want to go to then finding out how to overcome this obstacle to get admission to that college. Don’t let one mistake deter you from your college dreams! Good luck!

Did they have reasonable suspicion to search? If they only had a hunch, they didnt have the right to search you, even if you are at school and are a minor. I mean, if they thought you were coming back from a drug deal, then had reasonable suspicion, but if they decided to search you on a whim, I dont think they can do that.

^ NJ v TLO aka they can.

fearnoman you really screwed yourself over. Why would bring a half to school? Rating out your dealer is also ****ed up especially if he is only selling weed.

Most important thing to keep in mind: colleges know that students smoke dope. They know that even very good students smoke dope. This is not news. My guess is that is highly unlikely that your admission will be revoked. The scholarship might be another issue.

My son, now a freshman, was arrested during his senior year for possession. In our state, for first offense you can plead guilty, but the court does not formally accept your plea. If you successfully complete probation (classes, random drug testing, etc.) then they drop the charges. No public record. Regarding applications, his lawyer told him that if a college asks, “were you ever arrested?”, then he must answer “yes.” If they ask, “were you ever convicted,” he can truthfully answer, “no.” He was never asked the former. I would have been all over him if he had tried to lie.

I understand that your situation is different. Here’s what I would recommend:
- Find out from your school exactly what their policy is on informing colleges, and when – both if you are kicked out, and if not. (Obviously colleges will find out if you are expelled.)

Gain some understanding of how strict Hampton is about this stuff. Check the requirements for your scholarship to see how much emphasis there is on “citizenship” issues. Also check their code of student conduct.

Do some hard thinking about your philosophy toward drug use and its role in your life. Can you in all honesty commit to complying to Hampton’s code of student conduct? If not, why not? What have you learned from the experience of getting caught at something you thought you could keep secret?

Think about writing Hampton and telling them what’s happened. THEY WILL NOT BE SHOCKED. Tell them why you still want to go there, why you think you are still a good scholarship candidate, and give them some insight into your thought processes from #3. If you do not think you can fulfill their expectations for their scholarship winners, then give serious consideration to withdrawing.

Be honest. My feeling is that a school that is not willing to forgive someone who is thoughtful and has integrity is not worth going to. If you lack integrity on this issue, they will probably see through you. You are not unique.

Good luck. Keep us posted.
