I got deferred from the honors program... any suggestions?

After submitting my application first cycle - and getting deferred - I learned that the application is based solely off of essays, and my essays were kind of bad. I know that at umich the honors program isn’t a “major award”, but I really like the idea of community and want to be on central campus. I know I made a mistake - is there anything I could do now to increase my chances?

Apply to Residential College. It’s a small community.

@MYOS1634 I have a hard time understanding the residential college. I want to double major in International Studies and Econ - would it be a good fit?

Yes- it’s a small community, you have non-traditional, international language classes which would definitely help with international studies, lots of small classes…
Of course send a letter of continued interest to honors.
By the way, there’s some overlap between non Stem honors and residential college students .

There are also other great Living Learning Communities if you seek the community aspect. FWIW, honors is not even that strong of a community.

Just remind yourself the whole school is a Honors program if you think about it. Anyone who gets accepted into any program at Michigan would basically be in a honor program at 90% of universities across the country.
