I got denied for a scholarship from my CC but my FAFSA Pell grants will cover a Bachelor's degree, how did you feel about rejection of a scholarship?

I’m very thankful my Pell grant can cover me till my bachelor’s degree. After that if I want to pursue something higher, that’s a ‘maybe’ if they cover something, that’s a 50/50 chance.

I had applied for a scholarship from my CC page. Wrote a nice 250-word scholarship essay. A few months later, saying I was not chosen, I asked some of my current classmates they were rejected as well.

Oh well least I made it on the honors and dean’s list and have a GPA of 3.4. Plus all A’s and B’s that’s more important to me, long as I love to learn, that’s not going to stop me and my goals  Other classmates have a GPA of 2.4 and mostly D’s which really impacted their Pell grants.

But for a bachelor’s degree, I have to choose very carefully what I like, I’m all over the place with this BS degree. I have to choose something I really love, FAFSA will not pay for a second bachelor’s degree. I do have a list of colleges, I have to spend some time reading the academic catalogs to get a brief overview before even joining. That’s how I joined my CC by doing my homework carefully I chose the correct college for me

OP, there are no 50/50 chances with a Pell grant. It’s a government entitlement paid for by the taxpayers of the this country- if you qualify, you get it. If you don’t qualify, you don’t. Colleges don’t get to override this, and there is no “professional judgement” like there is with the college’s own money which they hand out as financial aid.

Make sure you read the fine print. I get worried when you post about all the classes you plan to take and hope you know down to the penny how much your degree is costing you and how long it’s going to take you to finish. It is not uncommon for students to run out their Pell eligibility before they are done with their Bachelor’s degree.

So far I have used 225.004% for my Pell Lifetime Eligibility.

There’s a 600% limit.

Please go and talk to the transfer advisor at your community college. That person will give you advice about courses, and information about transfers from that community college.

And remember this…many jobs are not tied to a specific college major.

I did talk to an advisor, view my reply to another thread.

Your title to this thread is a little confusing. The Max PELL Grant is just over $6000. What four year college has that as the total cost of attendance?

OP- you’re more than a third of the way through your Pell, but from what you’ve posted, you are NOT more than a third of the way through your Bachelor’s degree… hence my comment. It’s not just how much you’ve used, it’s making sure that the courses you are taking are going to get you to a degree.

Good question.

That’s what my FAFSA account says 600% is the lifetime limit.

For my CC the 4 courses I’m currently taking cost $2482 cause 17*146 per credit hour.
