So UT offered to put me in the wait list for CS, and I applied. I’m not too positive that I’ll get in, so should I just go ahead and commit to A&M for CS or should I wait it out a bit? I highly doubt that I’ll get into UT at this rate but there’s always that small, small chance. Sad day for me
If you are wait listed you may be able to move up on the wait list by expressing interest and by having your guidance counselor call Austin and let them know that if you get an offer, you’d for sure go (if that is true and if you are sure nothing would interfere with your going). You can also make that promise in a letter to Austin. So don’t be sad. And besides, you got into a great school already but you still have a shot.
My S also is in waiting list, his first preference is CS. Received a letter stating “…unlike previous years, we do expect to be able to add students from the wait list to the freshman class.” Not sure if it is standard verbiage they use every year, or it is different this year. Hope for the best for everyone on the waiting list.
@fsinha The list of majors offered for those on waitlist seems to be available now on the admission status page. “Based on your interests, we’ve recommended six majors we think will be a great fit for you.” Well, I don’t know where the people making the recommendations went to school, I hope not UT. I don’t see any kind of fit for someone who is interested in Computer Science and Engineering. “Health and Society, Psychology, Sustainability…” The full list starts with “African & African Diaspora Studies” and ends with “Women’s & Gender Studies”. Yeah, great options for a white CS guy.
If the commit day is May 1 then you have some time to see how it plays out. I would express your interest in an email and if you are willing to attend if they says yes you can say so in the email. But only if you truly plan on committing. It does seem odd that those are the types of majors picked for a computer science/engineering type of student. How about attending undeclared? Many schools allow a student to go undeclared until the end of their sophomore year. You should still be able to take the classes that interest you. Anyway, that is something you can contact an admissions counselor about.
