Hi I got an acceptance letter from Tulane today.

I'm kind of weirded out becuase I applied regular decision. Didn't use the personal app or anything. I read over the other thread but it doesn't seem to have happened to anyone else.

Is this normal? I wasn't expecting anything until April.

Tulane doesn't spend a lot of time trying to figure out who want accept their offer. They spend more time figuring out who they want. Their admissions once the get going seems to be rolling and is probably pretty formulaic. The result is their yield is fairly low and their admits are a lot better than their ranking. They loose a lot of kids to anyone two slots higher on the US News and World Report Rankings table. Their goal of course is the same as everyone elses. Move high enough up the list that they can turn down some 1600 SAT class valedictorian just returned from working with homeless AIDS victims in a Calcutta slum who though Tulane was their safety school just so they could say they had done it. She of course was going to Harvard anyway. As it is though folks in admissions are eternal optimists so if they were to get that application in the morning post they would reply registered mail that afternoon.

Anyway congratulations. If you decide to go there it is a good school and a great town.

out of curiousity, when and how did you submit your application? i'm awaiting a response, and kind of looking for a rough timeline (although they did promise 4 weeks with the personal app).
