I got an admittance letter today also- and I'm not a minority, legacy, or athlete. Even weirder, I never actually finished my application to Amherst- I didn't send in the second part of the application because of all the essays- I just sent the common app that I sent to all my other schools- but never finished the supplement.

Now I definitely will look again at Amherst- it is a great school and has a beautiful campus- especially since I got deferred at Stanford EA.

I doubt that it is true; I don't think Amherst would order Fed-Ex service to include Sunday delivery. In addition, they REQUIRE the supplemental essay.

It could be that FedEx tried yesterday (saturday) but couldn't reach anyone, so they tried again today...

Edit: Actually, since he lives in Seattle, it was probably Priority Mail, not FedEx. It seems that only the outside of U.S. people have been getting Fed Ex, and the U.S. the priority Mail.

Just because I'm bored, I checked usps.com. It says that there is free Saturday delivery for Priority Mail, which probably means that there is an additional cost for Sunday delivery. Interesting... who would lie about an acceptance, though?

I have no idea what happened- I sent in the common app stuff online but decided not to finish my supplement. Also, the letter didn't arrive today- I just got back this morning after being gone for three days and thus only opened it today. It came yesterday and was postmarked March 3 (I live on the West Coast). I was shocked to get it. When I saw the envelope from Amherst I thought that it was just a notice telling me to finish my supplement...

By the way here are my stats- 1510 SAT 36ACT 2350 SAT IIs combined National Merit Finalist 4.0 GPA UW ASB Vice Pres. Varsity Tennis 3 yrs/ club tennis year round Concert Choir, Pres. Scholar Nominee, wrote common app essay about experience in Mali.

Anyways- Again good luck to everyone for everywhere that you are applying.

I noticed everyone who received letters live on the West Coast or "abroad" (Canada), and I'm just giving Senioritis04 the benefit of the doubt here. I guess us East Coasters have to wait a bit longer. Okay, forget it. I guess Amherst is releasing its decisions as its being made. :P

Haha... I don't think they would send a notice to finish your supplement by priority mail. I was wondering what the package was, but I figured it had to be something good since they cared enough to send by priority mail! I think my parents just assumed it was an acceptance letter because they just sat by my bed while I was opening the envelope, not even giving me any privacy. I seriously hope that they don't do that for the other college decisions on April 1!

Add: I received a letter, and I live in New York.

I talked to a senior at Amherst, he said that every year Amherst sends 100 to 200 RD letters out in early March. Another 900 or so will be sent later.

i'm the dad of an Amherst regular decision applicant who just rec'd an acceptance for the class of 2009. It came via USPS priority mail and the letter was dated March 3.

I posted this question on a similar thread, so sorry if you have to read it twice, but this one seems rather appropriate. What was on the email?
I got an email from Amherst today- looked like this:
