I am really ****ed off because I got into GSP today.
I am not a bad student, and I tihnk it is unfair that they put me in so early.

My stats:
gpa-3.6 at blue ribbon NJ public school (very competitive)
SATs: 1330/2090
SAT IIs: IIc-720 Spanish-600

ExtraCurriculars (note:these extracurriculars represent only the major stuff i can think of off the top of my head. my real list which is much larger is downstairs and I do not feel like transferring the items to this post): president of chess club, president of stock market club, vice-president of multicultural club, spanish club, 2 years soccer, 4 years track, 2 years varsity bowling
Number 1 in Northern New Jersey in the Stock Market Game.

Business Experience:
starbucks employee, nycmercedes.com, other website businesses, stock portfolio (89% total growth over 2 years)

I suspect that they accepted me into GSP because my sister, who had worse stats, was accepted a couple of years ago. They figure that they can push me around and get a GSP acceptance while leaving more spots open for CAS applicants.

Did you apply to CAS? It seems like your EC's are directed towards Stern. DUDE CONGRATS...NYU is a great school and I think you should take the opportunity. What other schools did you apply to? Don't get upset man...think of it in a positive way..its def better than a rejection and now you can still decide whether to go there or your other schools. Think about it.

I know NYU is a great school. I just dont think it is fair that I worked hard througout high school and I am the most fit ed applicant from my school and I cant even get into the program I applied to. If I couldnt get into CAS, I certainly couldnt get into stern.

fifa...i'm sorry to hear but in my case I would've definitely taken GSP over a rejection...its sort of a slap in the face, but at the same time you DID NOT get rejected..you still got accepted. The admissions process is so random so you can't beat urself up for it. So many factors come into play. What do you think got you deferred to GSP? You stats seem pretty good. I have lower stats than you and applied to Stern so i'll be more upset when I get my rejection letter. Do you know if any else in your school got GSP letters today? I know 2 people from school so far who got accepted to CAS and their stats were about the same as yours, but both were recruited athletes (swimming and shotput).

thats the spirit firewalker! congrats man...if God (or Vishnu) loves me I'll see you there next yr...but right now that won't be happening. I'm sitting here shivering and getting worried, and I never was worried before because I expected a rejection from Stern...

I'm guessing NYU had a more competitive applicant pool...or IDK...did they just not see something in you guys? Its so hard to figure out why you guys got put into GSP...but at least you did. GSP > Rejection...I'm sure the ones that got rejected woudl love to be in your position right now.

This is why I suspect my sister's acceptance 2 years ago had something to do with this. They assume that I am just oging to accept this hands down. Thus, they can leave more spots available for the CAS applicants. If this is the case, I think it is really unfair for a college to not accept someone to the program they applied to not because of merit.

Right now, although I am ****ed, I am considering it because the GSP courses are much easier. Thus, I can get a high gpa and possibly transfer to another school within. My original plan was to apply to CAS, knowing that my chances were better than mine at stern. I would then switch into stern after freshman year.

fifa...with the huge applicant pool you actually think that they checked to see if your sister was in GSP, etc. Supposedly they take only about 20 minutes to review an application. And I would think you would've had a better chance at NYU BECAUSE your sister went there (somewhat of a legacy). Well we can't change what happened...I say your plan is a good idea and I say you go for it. Afterall - it was your top choice. I wish I had the option of going to GSP...but Stern doesn't do that.

my other schools im applying to are:
TCNJ (in-state)
Rutgers (submitted app in early october,in-state)
Lehigh
Lafayette
University of Delaware
University of Maryland EA
Tufts
JHU
Brown
Cornell
Colgate
Carnegie Mellon

So basically, if I dont accept GSP, I cant get into any other name colleges. I know my chances at these schools.

Why do you say you can't get into any of the other schools? How do you know that? And can't you say if you accept GSP or not the same time that the RD pool sends their decision to NYU? I think you have a good shot at Rutgers(safety), Cornell, and I don't know much about the rest. If you don't have to accept the GSP offer right away, I'd wait and see where else you get accepted to keep your options open. GL man

Well fifa, my sister goes to the graduate school (College of Dentistry) and I put that down on my app...but it seems like it won't help me AT ALL considering even w/ ur sister going there they put you into GSP.

Congratulations! You have to first finish your GSP program for the first two years. They can only guarantee you acceptance into the school that you selected (CAS). It is really hard to transfer to Stern, especially GSP. But NYU is an awesome school. I am waiting for my rejection letter from Stern as I had lower SAT's than you did.

Leg...I'm starting to think that either NYU only bases their decision on Stats now...or its just really random. I'm starting to believe the myth that they only check stats, but I HOPE NOT. It really is random legionaire..because someone from my school got into Stern RD with 3.5 UW and 1270. And that was RD...so you never know what can happen. Its random and you can't beat yourself over it. Maybe they see something in one person that they like. You never know.

Fifa..Cornell is hard to get into but it has the highest acceptance rate of all the Ivies so you still got a shot and your stats are not bad at all...I'm telling you - you should apply and see for yourself if you get in or not. BTW what did the envelope look like and what did it say on the letter?
