Was the person a minority? I really hope I get in and hope you seriously consider going to NYU. Trust me you won't regret it. I attended the summer program there and had wonderful experience during the one month. Maybe you can double major in Economics and Political Science.

The kid was Half Italian and Half Spanish...so that 1/2 spanish could've played a part, but technically he really isn't much of a minority...

look, i know there are these kids who are gonna be somewhat upset over GSP, but the kids do the same things for the first 2 years, gsp kids will graduate with the same standings as their CAS counterparts, if you set your mind to it, you can achieve anything! don't be discouraged...

good point firewalker...and no1 cares what school you're in when you go there...

The letter just said we were unable to offer you admission to CAS, but you were accepted to GSP. Cornell, although they accept a lot, has a very good applicant pool. Being spanish is being white. Therefore, the person was not a minority. He probably had connections.

"and no1 cares what school you're in when you go there..."

exactly.! I'm not saying there wont be arrogant SOBS who look their noses down on us, but to hell with them..

I woudl just love to sit down with an admissions officer and discuss my app. I am not exactly complaining about the decision, just why me. I just want to know my flaw.

The kid didn't have any connections at all...and honestly..I would have never though he would get in of all people..he was a real dumbass - just shows how random it can be...supposedly NYU LOVES Community Service ... Stern emphasized that a lot on Open House..how community service and EC's that are oriented toward your major is what they like to see, but who knows.

Now that I think about it, it could be about geographic diversity. I am from a suburb of northern new jersey located about 10 minutes from NYC. Where are you from firewalker/parikhs?

I'm from Bronx, NY...and so was the kid that got accepted last year. If you know about "Fordham Prep" thats where I go and the kid graduated from. Supposedly NYU likes my school...but who knows.

when do rejection letters come out? cause if i dont egt one of them or a gsp... its safe to assume im in, i guess

Im sure that is why. MY school is very very competitive. The person ranked 204/208 in my grade has a C- average, 2.2

I can understand why one person from let's say texas would be accepted over me.

I dont think they accept anyone to their original programs this early.

"Now that I think about it, it could be about geographic diversity. I am from a suburb of northern new jersey located about 10 minutes from NYC. Where are you from firewalker/parikhs?"

I live in Sterling, Virginia. its an** exurb town of D.C, its in Loudoun County, 3rd richest, and 2nd fastest growing county in the U.S
I can't WAIT for the culture shock, that is i cant WAIT for the city life! thank god GSP kids go to the same campus+ live in the same dorms as the CAS kids :)

Do a lot of people from your school apply to NYU?

heh NYC is pretty different from Virginia... you'll definetly never be bored

oo firewalker...its gonna be so different and i think you'll love it...and from my visit and the people i've met...NYU'ers are really chill so it'll be easy to fit in. FOR DORM! PICK HAYDEN...if you haven't visited...its definitely the best traditional dorm :).

fifa...6 kids applied ED this yr...2 to Tisch 3 to CAS and me to Stern. 2 CAS kids have heard already even though they aren't supposed to (1 got recruited for swimming and is getting free tuition because his father is a doctor at NYU medical center) and the other didn't get accepted but his coach said he got the "Academic Approval" so basically he's in.

The other thing that kinda annoys me is that my sister didnt get this really early thing from gsp. She got her decision when all other ed applicants did, the 15th.

Well maybe they've changed it since then...btw did your sister graduate from NYU yet .. if not what yr is she?

My sister, who is a sophomore, lives in Palladium, which is really really nice. The thing is, u have to apply to live there. She got in because she was head of hillel at her dorm the previous year. But PAlladium is amazing.

Yah Palladium is amazing because its all new and whatnot...but for freshman yr living in a traditional dorm makes it a lot easier to meet people and whatnot...after frosh yr u can move into apartment-style w/ good friends you've made.
