And sadly, it was short of what I needed it to be of about 6,000 dollars. It was a very good amount, but unfortunately I don't want to be in so much debt when i graduate. There is no way I'll be able to afford the school with what they are offering, so it looks like I'll be attending SDSU, which I'm still extremely excited about. I was definitely good with going to either school and couldn't make the decision, so i decided to let the financial aid offered decide for me.

Did anybody else get their packets today? If so, were you happy with the amount received?

Just keep in mind that it may take you more than 4 years to graduate from SDSU.

Also keep in mind that your SAT/SAT II scores or AP classes may reduce your number of units to graduate, which may make up some of this difference. If you want a link, I will send it to you.

Also, don’t forget intersession.

You can take this janterm for free. It can be another cost savings when looking at your fin aid package over the next 4 years.

Do you have any proof or figures supporting the fact that it may take more than four years? I’ve heard that before, but I haven’t been able to find any official numbers of the percent of people who graduate in four years.

And yes, send me the link please.

xosammi,

Here is the link for the 6 year graduation rate at SDSU. This was from 2006 and is a new “high” for graduation within 6 years of beginning at the campus.

This is not to say that you cannot do it in four years. But with budget cutbacks in the CSU system, it may be harder to get classes in time to graduate. There may be less availability of those pre-requisites that you need.

Perhaps you can talk with some senior at this school and find out how many of them are on track to graduate? Some majors may require more time. Studying abroad may also put you off track, if that is a consideration.

I have a colleague that works part time and going to CSU Dominguez Hills, full time. She is currently on her 6th year. While this is not common, it isn’t all that uncommon, either, unfortunately.

I know many in the UC system that complain when it comes time to register for classes, they are all “filled”.

Your mileage may vary. SDSU may be the best fit for you, academically, socially, financially. Or it may be a wash, when you consider AP credits, intersession classes, SAT/SAT II scores waiving classes. Try to compare them side by side with what courses do get waived, if you have any. Those may help you graduate in even less time - at both campuses.

For all of those considering Chapman, here are some things you should look at.

Chapman offers waivers for taking and passing AP exams with certain scores. They also waive course requirements for incoming freshmen for testing at a certain level on the SAT/SAT II (not required for admission) and the ACT. Since the SAT II is not required for admissions there, many students opt not to send their scores. This is a mistake. If you are over that threshold, they may waive you for Math or English. It helped my son waive out of 5 classes, just for the SAT II scores! (It might help you, too. Check it out!)

Here is the link for Chapman for AP Credit. They go beyond just AP tests - they take certain scores on your standardized tests to waive you out of required classes.
