I’m already in debt with friends and families buying textbooks for school. My TAP grant has arrived that only covers tuition. I go to a CUNY and when I hover to my Finical Aid section the system only calculate my TAP grant which I already accepted. There’s no sight of Pell not even on the pending section. I’ve completed my 2018-2019 FAFSA, but my sister got both TAP and PELL that helps cover her expenses. I messaged my school Finical advisors but they respond in 2 weeks and give very vague and unhelpful responses. I did submit my verification of dependency and my selective service a month ago and it is still processing. Is that the reason my PELL haven’t showed up? Anyone else experienced the same thing? Please share your advice.
Of your verification is still processing…that is likely your issue.
When did you initially file your FAFSA?
I filed my FAFSA mid 2018, before I started college. My FAFSA page states I am eligible for up to $x,xxx amount.
What is your FAFSA EFC?
On the next school day, get there early and go into the FA office and ask where the Pell Grant is.
And the word is “financial”.
What is efc?
When your FAFSA was processed, it resulted in a number, that number is your EFC (expected family contribution).
Also, how much did you earn last year? Maybe your earnings were too high?
@sybbie719 could you explain how TAP interfaces with the Pell? Can a student get both? Or is TAP a last payer paying only after other grants and aid are applied?
Ok…mid 2018 would be June…or July. This FAFSA was available for filing on October 1, 2017. Is there some reason why you didn’t fill it out sooner? If you had applied sooner, your dependency verification documents and selective service documents would have been submitted a lot sooner…and likely all of this would be processed already.
As an FYI…the 2019-2020 FAFSA will become available on October 1, 2018. It will use 2017 tax year information. Keep an eye out…and file this one ASAP after it becomes available…unless there is some really good reason not to.
Nope my EFC is 00000*. And my family can’t afford my college without aid. ;(
I finished it around May/ April.
Yes…and you COULD have finished that FAFSA in October…so do that for the next academic year.
Yeah I’m gonna do my next fafsa earlier. Also, do I need to re-do my TAP as well?
“Your FAFSA has been selected for a review process called verification. Your school has the authority to request copies of certain financial documents from you and your parent(s). “ is this the selective service and the dependency form ?
Op will get his Pell because Pell is a entitlement. Op has also filed his paperwork late. Op filed his financial aid May/June when school started august 27. OP will get his money, he will just have to wait for it. A lack of planning on your part does not make it an emergency on their part. Everyone who had their paperwork in before OP will be processed before OP. OP still owes paperwork; until OP competes verification process and required paperwork, he is not going to get ant money. Until Op registers for selective service, OP is not going to get any money.
@pleaseacceptme99 why is it that you have no money for books? What did you do over the summer? Did you apply for SYEP or any of the other places that are hiring,? The minimum wage is $13/hr if you had a summer job, youwpuld have book money. You could have applied for summer jobs through your high school: school construction authority, school foods, College Access $ all and other initiatives in the DOE were hiring HS students.
Application Receipt Date: 10/11/2017
Processed Date: 05/20/2018
I did work in the summer, I bought a laptop before text book and expenses. ;(
Also I signed up for selective service long ago.
Are you working with your school on the verification process? Until you complete it you will not get any money. Go to the office to see them after class on tuesday
I did. They keep telling me that I need to be patient because it takes time. It has been a month now. I’m gonna go Tuesday if nothing happens.
can someone help with my situation? My problem is similiar to OP. But noone tries to help
What is your problem?
I got TAP, but no Pell for Fall 2018.
