I got raped by the AP English MC

when i sat down to take the test, i was afraid of the older excerpt (they always use one modern and one from past centuries) but the 2nd read like it was contemporary even though it was from the 1820s
overall not that bad...but i don't want to say b/c if i get that score back and it's a 4...

I don't mean to generalize here, but my teacher told me that lots more children than before are taking the AP Lang. test because state regulations are now trying to get as many kids to take AP tests as possible. This works out to your advantage, because MOST LIKELY the practical result will be a drop in the weighting curve. A lot of kids taking this test haven't received proper prep and are hoping to get just a 3. Tricky and twisty essay questions are likely to work out to your benefit if you nail them or not, because there are always thousands of kids staring at that question at almost the same time feeling dumbstruck. I don't mean to be mean or anything, but its just my teacher's 2 cents.

Essay #1 = I think I did pretty well, pretty straightforward prompt. I probably got a 7 or an 8, MAYBE a 9.

Essay #2 = Too short because I couldn't finish and had to cross out hwatever was left of my 2nd body paragraph and half my thesis so I wouldn't get an automatic 0. The damn thing was too hard to read and I'm not sure if I totally understood it. I might have understood it but couldn't figure out how to express my thoughts. At best a 4, probably a 2 or 3.

Essay #3 = Hopefully pretty good but I'm not sure whether my logic was good or not and I didn't have many examples, so probably/hopefully I'll get a 6 or a 7, or at least pass.

SO glad that test is over with...

[Edited to not get in trouble with the College Board]

I feel stupid--I didn't understand the first prompt. Was it asking for rhetorical strategies or how the essay was organized ("crafted the text")?

well,i've decided after looking through theories on what the "right" answer was for the passages , knowing what i wrote, questioning what i wrote. Although my essay stood opposite some of your views.. i feel like they were strong.. i couldn't include everything from the passage (no one can) .. so i'm hoping if you strongly supported your views & assertions then even what might seem left field to others can be tangible. ANything written well supported , on topic, should be able to well.

authors view on American culture

There are very good reasons for us to post the warning prominently every year. Ignoring the warnings could be very costly:

http://www.collegeconfidential.com/discus/messages/69/67735.html

Hmmm... wow, idk if I believe it.... haha but that gives me good reason to shut up now about the test ;)

Wow. Is there any way to retract responses?

you guys are freaking out too much. people talk about the tests every year after every test and nothing really happens. plus, the collegeboard people would look at other places first like myspace or facebook or xanga

Actually, your wrong. CC is the ideal place to look because it is full of people that are naggy about their grades and willing to go to certain lengths to obtain reassurance. This is the place where a lot of potential for cheating goes on, especially in a PUBLIC/FREE forum where almost anything can go. BTW, obtaining IP addresses isn't that hard, and I'm willing to bet tracking one down wont be very bothersome either.

well if youve already posted anything in this thread its too late now

Strange. I felt MC was pretty damn easy. Now the essays were annoying. I went halfway through the flamingoe question before I figured out what the author's views were.

Darther - not if it's been within 20 minutes since you posted. Haha, but I'll shut up now b/c all my "exam" posts were WAY beyond 20 minutes ago. Haha... yeah, I might as well be wearing a huge sign on my forehead or something... so la la la la la la la

What APs are you all taking next?

What if the College Board has somehow managed to put tracking devices on us that monitor what we talk about and even what we think? And they report these to a central something that then finds us and cancels our scores.

College Board is watching.

LOL

2006, a contemporary sequel to Orwell's 1984 ;) w/ the CB as Big Brother.

Oh please people! Come on now! I'm sure the CB takes its policies strictly, but I highly doubt it goes through all the effort of actively seeking out all possible students who violated the rules. It's not practical at all! It's a waste of time and a waste of resources....

....unless they have a committee for this kinda thing... maybe instead of Minitruth (as it was known in 1984) maybe it's called MiniOfficeOfTestingIntegrity..... oh well w/e :D haha random tangent.

MiniInteg!

MC Passage 1 was amusing, second half was a bit confusing though. Questions were midrange.

MC Passage 2 was hellish all around.

Don't even remember anything after that, but I think it was mostly easy.

Essay order: 2, 1, 3
2 was less difficult than expected, since the points I chose were quite well-defined

1 was the hardest for me. Probably had to do with our teacher showing us a similar question a few days before. One which very few people did well on.

3 was a joke. However, as I did it last, I imagine my writing suffered. I know for certain my handwriting did.

whoops im going to wait till after the 48 hr thing to post what i did so as to not anger the omni-everything cb

WOW I was just looking through the Course Description for English to find out about scoring and lo and behold, they used a William Hazlitt passage on their sample MC. I don't think it was the same one. Weird though. Hazlitt supposedly has written TONS of essays/works! I just thought that was interesting ;)
