i got rejected from san jose state with a 3.2?

If you fulfill all the TAG requirements, they won’t reject you. :)

I guess I should consider myself very lucky. I got in SJSU with a 2.7 GPA and as an electrical engineer. Plus I am no where near their service area (I live in OC).

From the very beginning this thread has been very unsettling to me. Whenever EXTREME ABNORMALITIES occur, I feel inclined to find out what the heck is going on (even if it does not personally affect me in any way whatsoever - as in this case). It’s kind of like the “world is coming to an end” scenario  if you will. So in my quest to uncover the mystery, here’s what I found:

twistnswif: I don’t know if this makes you feel better, but the reason you did not get in, is because you missed the so called “cutoff” or “threshold” by just a hair!!! I am assuming your major is English (because you had said that in another thread), and the threshold for your major is ABNORMALLY high (relatively speaking) compared to others. Its a whopping 3.25!!!. Most other impacted majors it is 2.60-ish. (see link below):

[SJSU Admission](http://info.sjsu.edu/web-dbgen/narr/admission/rec-1220.html)

bjt223: The reason you got in (see link above) is the GPA threshold for Electrical Engineering is a far far lower 2.60!!!

this is also the reason why Pigtails and elemenohpee did not get in (“animation” - 3.40 gpa - another insanely outlandish threshold - I think this was the highest cutoff on that list, together with “Global Studies” also at the same gpa)

^you’re amazing

wow great find victor!! i guess they didn’t even bother with going with my secondary major wich is anthropology and has a 2.0 threshold. Oh well.

@ victor555:I like the SJSU link you posted.do you happen to know other statistics like this for the other CSU’s like SDSU,CSU Fullerton, and Cal Poly SLO?

Re: SJSU GPA cutoffs for different majors’ transfer admission

This looks rather weird:

Computer Engineering: 2.60
Computer Science: 3.00
Software Engineering: 2.00

How come I didn’t get any notice from sjsu and I live 10 minutes away?

I’m sorry to everybody who didn’t get in and congrats who did. I thought SJSU wouldn’t be an impacted school but apparently it is. Yes, blame the budget cut! I got in as an econ major, anybody else? Haha.

I just got my admission packet from my mail today. The certificate that came with it was sure made of high quality paper!

I applied as a Math major, and live in Evergreen. I didn’t finish a prerequisite class or two.

Back up school = DOWN.

All, the rationale behind local acceptance is that those who cannot afford to pay for college and pay to live on campus can theoretically live at home and achieve a 4 year degree. That makes college affordable - 2 years at cc plus 2 years tuition only at State - without relying on parental units at all.

My son started at SJSU as a freshman over a few UC’s due to overall cost / benefit analysis as an engineering major. SJSU and SDSU are a little different than the CSU pack (not like the Poly’s, but some) due to alumni business relationships/ opportunities / urban location affording internship potential. For engineering transfer kid w/ 3.88, if you have all prerequisites you will definitely be accepted at some UC, just perhaps not UCB, UCLA or UCSD. Report back here when you get your answers, pls.

I got into sjsu, but didn’t apply.

lolwut

ahh, you guys should be glad you’ve completed parts of your education and that you’re transferring out.
All the best,

Not to bum anyone out, but I applied to transfer to SJSU for Aerospace Engineering with a 2.92 and got in.

I’m not in their service area either…

Not sure what its about, but its obvious that its not a lack of hard work. There is some behind the scenes reason, like a formula or quota or pattern they like to keep. so dont feel too bad about it.

I was scared to death and applied to 8 schools haha. I didn’t get into Cal Poly SLO, but I wasn’t expecting to. I’m very excited to be a Spartan though. I still haven’t heard back from LB, SD, or Pomona but I’m sure I’ll choose SJSU.

Sorry to hear you didn’t though, but again, its not because your work isn’t good enough, its just some other admin reason. I’m sure you’ll get into your top choice. And sure, appeal it just to be safe. There is no harm in trying.

Don’t feel bad. Two of my friends last year applied to SJSU with a 4.0 with ALL pre-reqs done (including some upper-division classes). They were accepted by every UC, including UCLA and UCB, and they too were rejected by SJSU. They both are in Berkeley doings EECS.

SJSU has a weird priority thing going on. My friend told me that he applied a week before the deadline which might have been the case behind it.

I applied the night of the deadline with 5 min to spare! lol

I got turned down by Cal Poly despite probably getting into most of the UCs I applied to.

Well I just got rejected from SFSU with a 3.8 as a history major. I don’t care that much, because I plan on going to UCSD but, I dunno, I am kind of surprised.

I don’t live in the “local” zone. I live near San Diego. Also, I have 57 of my credits from a California Community College and about 10 more from an out of state CC. And I noticed when my admission status changed from “applicant” to “denied”, “transfer: Junior” changed to “transfer: sophomore”.

What gives? I didn’t apply as a sophomore transfer.
