Well, it looks like I'm not going to PSU. Just got my financial aid "award"(If you want to call it that) and I am getting $2000 and change for the year.

In other words, I am one of five kids with an older sibling at the very expensive NYU with my parents making a little less than $110,000 per year.

And they expect them to pay almost $29,000. Thanks Penn State.

that is messed up. That is 12,000 above your EFC. Sheesh. My buddy got into Umich but can't go because he got a 14,000 EFC and they want him to pay 30,000+ straight up...

What did you guys get money for? I am expecting mine anytime now but probably won't get anything due to a high efc. Did you guys also revise your FAFSA?

Penn state gave us a 600 dollar grant and 1300 in aid. I am a single parent and make 38,000 per year . We are OOS so they say I should pay 31,000 per year. That is hysterical. Why bother fill out a FAFSA? We got a good laugh over it and filed it in the "you must be kidding" pile. Me thinks Penn State financial aid office has been in the cow pasture a little too long........

lol I got my award and I have around 8k in aid...that leave 11k for outta my pocket when i have a 4k in EFC (and that EFC even seemed high to me :P)
Unfortunately....Case is starying to look better. However I will see if I cant change what I get by talking with the fin. counselors when I go up...

Ditto. Jeez, we getting $1,500 (a year) with a one-income household, mother in college, out-of-state situation (Texas), and anticipated move. My dad doesn't even make $100,000 a year. Thaaaaanks PSU. Unbelievable. I guess I shouldn't be surprised - PSU is ranked pretty high in Princeton Review's "Worst Financial Aid" ranking.

On another note though...there are people that need the money far more than I do. It's just frustrating when you want to go to graduate school and study abroad and all that...and you don't want your parents to go destitute.

harmon,
Is your EFC $29K for both of you or for each of you ($59K total)? It was my understanding that the EFC would be split between two siblings.

so IN-STATE!!!! I'll have to pay 20,000. when my EFC is around 10,000

What's really bogous is that my sister is going to College too so my parents who probably make 85,000 a year combinded would have to pay 40,000 a year just for college.

I guess I'll probably have to get some loans or crap like that.

Oh well, I guess it doesn't really matter since down the road, I'm going to become a Multi-Millionaire,, but for now it kind of stinks for my parents and me if I have to get some loans or crap.
