I got waitlisted to almost all of my reach schools...Any shot at Cornell?

I got rejected from Duke's Pratt of Engineering.

And Waitlist from:
University of Virginia's Engineering School
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering
Carnegie Mellon CIT

With all of these waitlists...is there any shot of me getting accept to Cornell? I want to get in at least one of my reach schools. :(

1370/2010 SAT Math 730; Reading 640; Writing 640
Physics 640; Math I 720; Math II 710
GPA: 98.75 Rank 2/114
Captain of Track Team
Student Body Vice President
Concert Master of HS Orchestra
President of National Honor Society

Any comments? =/

cornell is def more competitive than the ones you have already been waitlisted at but cornell does seem to emphasize fit more than anything. so I still think you have a shot.

then again, times are tough, man. good luck.

tough sell…

it’s def all bcuz of that SAT score i feel for ya man i’m in the same boat…
you’re like the creme de la creme in everything else in your school so they should recognize that… you prob just got waitlisted cuz they don’t want it to bring down their mid 50% range acceptance average, but they’ll eventually take you after all that’s been officially recorded

hmm i never thought of this practice…is this how schools get around the rankings? is this why cornell has a lot of GTs and such?

No. I know tons of people who have like super super high SAT and got GTed.

that’s just a theory of mine, no hard facts to back it up (disclaimer and etc to cover my butt lol)

um i think they have selective percentages, right? and it must be… convenient for them not to factor in waitlist statistics…

tho i think GT has more to do with having more room in the difficult programs for the upper waitlist rather than rankings, when ppl finish up their degrees fall semester and they have more room for ppl in the spring semester

What does GT stand for?

guaranteed transfer, meaning that they got accepted for sophomore year and if they still choose after the first year to go to cornell then they have an automatic spot in the class

Any other opinions?

No, you won’t get accepted, honestly. A GPA like that coupled with such abysmal SAT scores shows that your school really must not be all that difficult, and you really must not be surrounded by people that are very smart, or you wouldn’t be ranked so high. Other than that, you could just do nothing but school work. Either way, your SAT scores ruin your GPA, because it shows that something is wrong if you can attain a GPA like that with SAT scores like 2010.

^ Lulz. Do you realize that a 2010 is the 94th percentile? Meaning, if you got twenty people together, OP would have an even chance of having the highest SAT score in the room. Since OP is “President of National Honor Society” they are probably the studious type and being Salutatorian in a class of 114 is completely reasonable.

Bob Dylan called it.
Straight up rejection.
