I had no idea freshmen could get single rooms

But I pulled it off, hahahaha.

Single Room in Descartes House @ Crown College
Someone tell me about it! What's the Descartes house like?

Kinda bummed that I didn't get a double, I hope I'm not gonna end up lonely in a single hahahahah.

If you have the money and are proactive with meeting people on your floor, a single is a blessing in disguise. It only sucks if you are super shy and hide in your room during the first week of school (which I saw happen to two students my freshman year). Roommates are hit or miss, so look on the bright side and just imagine if you got a roommate that was a total opposite of you.

About Crown… I really like the college overall. The dining hall is pretty good, and you are close to Tacos Morenos and Banana Joes for some relatively cheap fast food. It is a peaceful environment and I found there to be a lot of diversity (some crazy kids and some nerdy kids) but everyone seemed to get along.

Same here. I got a single room in Galileo House@Crown College.

Woot Galileo! I was there last year, and I painted the WALL-E and EVE mural :slight_smile:

I spent a lot of time in Descartes too, because many of my friends were there. Can’t say much about either of the dorms. The experience is made by the people you live around, you know? Cali Trumpet speaks the truth, Crown is a nice area in general.

How was Galileo?

Pretty good. It’s the academic themed house. All that means is you get better quiet hours and the opportunity to go on some badass field trips during the school year. I really enjoyed it for that. Descartes was really loud in comparison, people had less respect for people studying. But like said, the experience is up to the group of people who are placed there.

ok good. I like the way that I get quiet hours to study.

I also got a Single @ C9 even though I put Double as 1st choice.

@Cali
Well, to be honest I’m pretty shy right now. :stuck_out_tongue:
It’s something I’m trying to work on so it shouldn’t be too much of a problem, I guess?

Congrats, that’s cool! I know someone who got a single in College Ten, which must be nice since the dorms are pretty new. I’m a little jealous, but I’m also trying to save money, so I’m happy for my double. You won’t be lonely! Join a club or do a sport! One of my friends at UCSD had a single last year, and she has more friends than ever because she does rowing.

I know I am weird, but I have found all of my better friends and acquaintances outside of my dorm/apartment. I am also (or at least was) very shy. The one thing I wish I had done my Freshman year was to join a club or two and stick with it. If it doesn’t work out, pick another. Clubs are great and even if you can’t find a club that interests you, you can create your own. At Santa Cruz, it is VERY easy to do this, and it just so happens that if you have a narrow interest, there are probably a dozen or more other students who also share your narrow interest and would be thrilled to join your club.

Ha, thanks! @JulieJuu
I haven’t seen the Crown single rooms yet but I heard they’re pretty spacious, xD
I’m not a very sporty person but do plan to join a club, I guess. I dunno yet!

@CaliTrumpet
I was at orientation yesterday and everyone in the Crown group was really quiet and/or didn’t want to talk to me LOL.
I’ve already found a couple of clubs that are interesting, too.
