thanks everyone :D

look, if you maintain a 94-96 average through out high school your gpa wont be a problem.

take AP's and the toughest courses possible and maintain or improve but thats far from enough to get you rejected. what would hurt you is a random splattering of clubs, no pattern in courses taken and EC's. sure you think you're an ideal all around person but to an admissions officer it looks like you're doing all the stuff for the sole purpose of putting it on your app. they can see right through that sort of stuff. the bigger problem is that it make you look identical to everyone else applying and gives them no reason to accept you over anyone else. so just do what you enjoy. participate in clubs that you're interested in, play sports that you like, try things out but dont do things for the sole purpose of putting it on your app because you think it'll help your chances.

moaning about a 94?

O.o; DAYuummm. For a moment I thought you had a horrible GPA or something. x.x;;;; Goodluck getting into JHU. :] Just keep up with the good work! Woot! Class of '07!

I may sound nutty in this forum. The fact is, most of the people on this web site are EXTREMIST.

I see NOTHING wrong with your grades. The only problem I can see is the fact that you are caught up in the Academic Performance Cult. When I was in high school, I was a charter member of the Academic Performance Cult. I thought that the sun rose and set based on my academic record. I thought that the world would owe me a living because of my grades. Some facts for you to ponder:
1. Nobody cares about your grades or detentions from elementary school or junior high. If you don't believe me, ask all your teachers if they'll give you extra credit because of what you used to be like. Conversely, aren't you glad that your teachers and principal/dean don't care about the trouble you got into in the past?
2. A few years from now, nobody will care about your grades or detentions from high school.
3. When you get into the workforce, your boss won't care about what kind of student you were in college, either.
4. The Law of Diminishing Marginal Returns applies to academics as well as economics. The payoff of improving a GPA from the B range to the A range is far less than the payoff of improving a GPA from the C range to the B range. However, it's much harder to improve from a B to an A than to improve from a C to a B.
5. Colleges like JHU, Cornell, and Columbia are only a SMALL SLICE of higher education. There are THOUSANDS of colleges out there, but only a tiny percentage are that hard to get into. The vast majority are easy to get into.
6. The SAT/high school GPA stats that colleges have of their enrolling classes don't give you the whole story on how competive admissions are. Someone with a V+M score of 1000 won't have much trouble getting into a college where he/she is at the class average, because the admissions rates of such colleges are quite high. Admissions decisions at these schools are quite predictable and aren't as dependent on essays, extracurriculars, how desperately they need to enroll someone with your musical talent, whether or not your parents have donated $1 million, the mood of the admissions officer, or the current temperature in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
7. For most people (like 99.9%+), it doesn't really matter how competitive their college was. What percentage of people in Oklahoma know someone who went to an Ivy?

Bottom line: Just sit back, relax, and be in the top 10% of your class (assuming you are in a normal high school). You'll have nearly as many options as the valedictorian.

lol...i like ur personality mangos....and i agree with jhsu....relax, but try hard while not killing urself... :-)
