I hate AP Lit!!!! :/

I just finished my semester and these are my grades

AP Chem - A
AP Govt - A
AP Pysch - A
AP Calc BC - A
AP Lit - C
Art - A

I'm going to submit my mid-year report and I was wondering if the C in AP lit is going to really hurt my chances. I'm applied to USC, Duke, and a couple UCs. I'm really worried. Should I be? Or am I overreacting?

c is fine just don’t get a d or an f. and besides, ap lit is easy D: but that’s just me.

Thanks for the reply.
My teacher is just crazy.

Must be the same teacher as my daughter’s for AP Lit. 4-5 hours of HW most nights and doesn’t post grades until report cards. Her grading is totally subjective too. My daughter got a B first semester and that is the first B in English she has ever had. She worked her butt off to get it too…English/Lit is her favorite class, and this teacher is sucking the love of it right out of her :(

A C doesn’t mean squat with those grades surrounding it. My friend got a c in spanish 7-8 junior year. Yet, he got into Duke and will be attending the school next year. His grades were outstanding besides the C and he explained his circumstance.

My daughter has never been on A honor roll because of AP lit. At her school, an “A” is 93-100 and she consistently gets a 91. Her teacher is a totally subjective grader as well. As a result, my D hates English (800 SAT CR and 36 ACT reading though). It hurts as I am an AP English teacher too and my students are pretty happy with the class.

I hope you get a 5 on the exam to show that teacher what you can do! Hang in there.

I hate to break it to you guys, but for the most part, grading in lit is very subjective. That’s just the nature of the subject.

Thank you, MathBeast… :D

Thanks for the support. For those of you who are taking AP Lit or those who already took it, how did your teachers grade essays? Did you guys only have in class essays?

My teacher grades it on a 9 point scale. Over the last 5 years the highest score on all essays is an 8. Essay grades are 30% of your grade, and I score 6-7 most of the time, which equates to around 75%. On top of that we have ridiculous tests (recall random quotes in the book, which chapter, and determine which character said it). Also, there is no curve. Now tell me how this reflects what is on the AP test?

Is there a reason why you have to take this class again next semester with this teacher? Doesn’t sound like a great use of your time. Take Honors Lit next semester.

I’m actually learning in that class, but the grading policies are ridiculous. My school doesn’t offer Honors system. It’s either regular english or AP.
