AP English D=

So I took my first practice test this week in class, and it counted as a semi-major grade so I got a C+. I'm not worried about the test itself since I have time to prepare for that, but as I'm applying to college very soon so I'm very aware of grades. My new English teacher is notorious for being a harsh grader, and as a student who gets As and high Bs, this is the first time I'm worried about the possibility of not being able to pull off an 80. I realize it's early in the year to freak out about this, but I'm getting pretty scared that this class is going to be really bad. I'd love to drop it (and just take advanced English) so that I could focus on AP Euro since that has a lot of work but I love it, but that leaves me with 2 APs which isn't great, so dropping isn't an option, but I'm scared of how this year is going to go.

For anyone who's taken a class that's way harder than anything they'd dealt with before, how did it go? Did things get better after the beginning?

Things got better for me in AP English Language after the beginning. I was at a B grade for a while in first semester and gradually learned to write more effectively and analytically. Just keep with it and practice. I ended up with A’s both semesters. Good luck :)

I hate how our education system is, we have to take all these AP courses even though we may not have any interest in the subject at hand, JUST so we look better for colleges. It should be take the AP course you have an interest in…not whoever has the most AP courses WINS!

If what I just said wasn’t the case then I would suggest dropping AP English, though since it is all I have to say is GOOD LUCK.

@Apoc314, thanks for the encouragement
I feel like I am a decent writer, and I wouldn’t be that worried, but my teacher has this rule where if you make a single grammatical error in your essay, you can’t get higher than a 79. Now my grammar is generally fine, but that really freaks me out, and I’m getting pretty scared that I’m going to do badly because of it. Also I’ve heard that he grades on a curve (which no other teachers do) with a C average (when our school system encourages kids with a B- to drop a level) although I’m not sure if that one’s actually true…
