After being rescinded from my college of choice (which was a top, best of the best engineering school by the way), I was forced to make a chocie: either go to a community college or take a gap year. I did not want to waste one year doing absolutely nothing so of course I chose the former. I just began community college....and so far I felt completely out of place. I checked the facebook accepted page, or rather the event page since this was a community college and the people seemed really disgusting. Most of the people seemed to have a very low socioeconomic status, and that kind of thing really disgusts me. So what should i do? Do i really want to subject myself to this kind of torture? Like I know, it sounds wrong to make fun of people less fortunate than me, but the thing is, we are at different levels here. I am from a middle class background, my family is middle class (if not upper middle class) and I want to have at least a middle class, if not upper class lifestyle. Like my parents have always told me, my life must be better than theirs because they were able to provide for me better.

Its just that I hate these people so much. Some of the girls here are just ugly, like 2/10. Even my prom date looks better than half of them. She wasnt that great looking (she was actually kinda fat) and she was somehat poor cause she couldnt afford a good dress, but Im sure these people cant even afford a dress. Then there are the obese ones who cant take of themselves. Seriously, if they cant even manage their *ing weight, how do they expect to manage their futures? And then, worst of all, there are the druggies, those instant gratification junkies who cant do * with their lives besides steal money or whatever they can do to get their next hit.

I seriously feel like Im out of place here. I feel like I was ripped from my middle class environment and placed into a lower class one. I feel better than the people here, much richer than them even though by normal standards my family nor I am rich. Should i act poor so i belong with them or act like i am really rich so they have someone to look up to?

This is a major dilemma and I need a solution ASAP. I feel like Im going to rip my hair out if I dont find a way to survive this sudden change in my expected quality of life.

Stop being such a snobby a-hole for starters. You’re middle class as you say, and then seem to have the attitude of the rich folk in The Great Gatsby.

(And yeah this whole thread feels like an attempt at getting people riled up).

I’m not trying to be a snob. I’m serious, the people that go to this community college are pathetic, can’t even take care of themselves. Yes I know i’m middle class, not that rich, but I don’t deserve to associate with people like this. Like I said before I need to go UP, not DOWN.

It’s always hard to respond to your treads, because there seems to be bits of truth to them (like the fact that you got rescinded), and you seem like you want some help, but then a lot of what you say sounds like trolling, so it’s hard to take you seriously.

It’s hard for me to believe, for example, that the ugliness of the students really repulses you in the way you describe.

Um, I was rescinded from the college I got into too, and decided to take a gap year more or less (community college was an option, but did not really want to go because I had some concerns which you have now confirmed).

There are plenty of productive ways to spend a year besides going to a CC, so I would say maybe you should reconsider your options, and not write the alternative - not going to a CC - off as necessarily being a waste.

Sorry you’re not having a happy experience :(. Your contempt for other people certainly doesn’t help. I would imagine that there are a few students in your class that you could possibly be friends with, and learn things from, and appreciate, if you gave them more of a chance.

TsunamiJ, get over yourself. You were rescinded and now everything you’ve ever accomplished in high school no longer means anything. You’re just like everyone else at your community college now.

How does your head fit through doors? Money doesn’t make you better than anyone. You should be ashamed that you think that way, poverty disgusts you? People like you disgust me. Those people are there to improve their life just like you are. Get to know them before you judge them.

Things you need to do
Change your attitude and stop acting like a git or drop out.
Sorry if this comes off as offensive, but your post was kind of offensive to everyone in CC because they couldn’t afford 4 years at a regular college.

I’d pay money to hear how a job interview would go for the OP. It’d probably be something you could put in “How to” books in the “DO NOT” category.

If you’re trolling I have to give kudos for keeping the same story going for 8 months. That requires dedication and that one day you can look back and smile at all of your manipulation that accomplished nothing.

Assuming you’re not a ■■■■■ I have this advice to give: Lose your superiority complex, it’s good for nothing, and frankly I’m surprised you’ve kept it being on CC this long. You assume these people are worse than you? Sounds like you never gave up that bullying habit that had you so worried. Go to Community College for a year, let the experience change you, then reapply and address your story in your essays. Hopefully you’ll be humbled enough by the experience that you can write a convincing enough essay to be accepted into a college you’d enjoy going to.

It’s probably an alt account of some CC regular. The fact that people consider him to be anything more than a ■■■■■ is side-splittingly jocular.

No doubt there are people out there who think like he does, but nobody dumb enough to post on the HSL forum only to recieve the same response over and over again. C’mon you guys…

None of the “top, best of the best engineering school[s]” in this country want snobby kids who cringe at the lower class or judge people for superficial qualities, anyway.
At the very least they want people who are serious about academics, and he did get rescinded, which basically indicates that he only tried in high school to get into a good college, although I’m sure if he decides to rebut this he will cite “personal issues.”

Even if he isn’t a ■■■■■, he put himself in this position with his petty attitude toward college and his ridiculous superiority complex.

But you are free to lose respect for me if you’d like. Respect is a valuable commodity on online anonymous forums.

The OP overdid it a bit, but I can understand his viewpoint. I myself am quite poor,so I’m a bit different from the OP, but also top of my class . I took a few classes at community college, supposedly one of the best in Los Angeles, and it was horrible. One of the worst experiences I have ever had. I took 5 classes at this college, so I have a pretty good view of the community. A good % of them are criminals/druggies, another good % of them are incredibly lazy students who still struggle with multiplication but do not care. As soon as I stepped into a classroom the overall depression of the classroom caught onto me.

Not to say all students are like this. One of my close friends failed his 9th and 10th grade, but then got a 4.0 during 11th and 12th grade. He is very smart, and now intends a community college. I respect people like that, but most people in community college are not like that.

Some of the people have been on and off in community colleges for many years. The majority of the classes are ridiculously easy and the students still manage to fail because they just don’t care. Due to time constrains in one class, I did none of the h.w, missed many lectures, never studied, and still got an A. This is not in any way due to my level of intelligence, but just that I decided to actually take the final instead of sleeping during it(in class).

So, granted that the OP came off as snobby, he does have a point. For the most part, community college is not for high achieving students.

Disclaimer: All I said above applied to the majority of community college students. I understand there are a lot of smart, hard-working students there. This is also my experience at a single community college, so it is not a conclusive study ;D

when I said lose respect I didn’t mean lose all respect - I just meant your post changed my perception of you slightly, and in the way that my respect for you decreased.
Of course respect is a totally useless commodity on an anonymous forum, so this clarification is meaningless :).

btw, I’m an example of someone getting rescinded but not for the reason of only trying in school to get into college.
