I hate Cornell..

Clay, I agree with what you have said in your post, but it is obvious you haven't been to Cornell. Just listen to gomestar foaming at the mouth to defend Cornell. Like I said, if the school's reputation is still stellar, gomestar should not get riled up so much. But she seems to hang onto every one of my words. If you go over her posts carefully, you'll see a pattern of her using very advanced words like "stupid" over and over again to describe another person who also went to Cornell in her staunch pursuit to defend Cornell. You tell me what kind of a character she's divulging to the rest of the world...

By the way, she doesn't know anything about the film department at Harvard. Again, that's expected... People who graduated from Harvard have actually made feature length films. That fact can be Googled...

By the way, Cornell is so technologically savvy and with the times that they sent thousands of emails to high school seniors who had already received their rejection letters in mail acceptance notices with the heading "Congratulations, Welcome to Cornell, your future alma mater"... Just name another university, not just an Ivy Leauge, but any university which has made such a blunder in recent years... It was so ridiculous that it was even written up in the NY Times.

But on a more serious note, Clay. You may have gone to or still is going to Cornell and if you are happy in your department, finding it challenging and rewarding, that's great. You might be in the minority. My classes at Cornell were anything but challenging... I was bored all the times in my class and I got good grades. I took more challenging classes at a state university level.

All I want to do at this point is withdraw. Can I? Please? My parents keep insisting that I dont have to stay here too much longer and to stick it out. It's much easier to say that when you don't have the faintest idea what this feels like. I've involved myself in a relatively time consuming club and I've been working on my attitude. But somehow I still don't feel genuinely happy. I can fake it with the best of 'em. I'm trying so (too?) hard to have fun. I went to the homecoming game and then came back to my dorm room and cried for 20 minutes, for no real reason. I just want to come home and stay home and work the rest of the semester or something. I think I'm definitely going to call the psychological service center. Maybe my problem is more than just homesickness (i.e. emotional disorder?..depression?..). Maybe I'll just start walking back to Buffalo =(. Why am I having such a terrible day?

Greenforest, you're seriously bithing about Cornell not having a film department? UChicago doesn't have anything remotely close to engineering--I guess that makes them pretty shi*y, huh?

"Cornell's philosophy is stuck in the past?" It's actually pretty awesome how we haven't deviated even slightly from our egalitarian founding philosophy. We take lots of transfers and even cc kids, yet we're still strong in almost every field.

Cornell isn't infallible; of course there will always be unhappy students. But they are in the minority. I suggest you quit scaring away prospective students with your vague, inane criticisms.

There are 13,500 undergraduates and 2,000 faculty members at Cornell. If you give it time, you'll find many things you like.

"It's actually pretty awesome how we haven't deviated even slightly from our egalitarian founding philosophy." Wow. He actually read the college brochure with all the pretty pictures and took it to heart...You are missing the point, Caillebotte. Cornell and you are a perfect match... I never doubted that... Obviously, you find agricultural science more progressive than film. My point about the school being stuck in the past... I rest my case.

Remarkable, the minds of people who currently defend Cornell: always full of anger and short on clear rational thinking... I thought that when you went to an Ivy League, you become better at expressing yourself beyond words like b-i-t-c-h and s-h-i-t-t-y...I welcome more posts from people like you who are simply exceptional at articulating nothing but your anger and your usage of the most trite and ineffective words.

I am sorry to hear that, muffin17. After reading your last post, I just want to give you a hug now.
I am glad to see that you've given it a chance but it's really unfortunate that it didn't work out. I think the best thing you could do at this point is to talk to psychologist who, I'm sure, could help you more and better than this board. If nothing, just to unload your problems out loud.
I know it's not really helpful when someone says this when you're absolutely lost and confused, but still, whatever you decide, I hope you'll choose and find a happier future :) cheers

Yes, my heart goes out to muffin17. It's too bad the only thing she was seeking was an alternative point of view and now this forum has turned into a free for all... Muffin17, take care of yourself and trust in your feelings and thoughts. You are going to school to better yourself, not to serve the school's agenda.

Well GreenForest, I guess your articulacy really got you places. You swabbing the grill at Hardees with a crusty Pynchon in your back pocket? Cornell's gravitas just could not tip the scales and compensate for your blinding mediocrity or poor decision-making, and that has you on the warpath. Why are you so mad at Cornell? Hm, could it be because Cornell didn't hand you what you don't deserve?

Caillebotte, like I said, your anger shows through and that's because you're desperately trying to suppress it. All I hear from you are personal insults, nothing rational or noteworthy. It's only the people at Cornell who don't realize that the school is a bottom-feeder in the Ivy League...If my assertions are completely off base, it shouldn't anger you as much. If I told people that Harvard Law is crap or that Standford computer science department is a joke, they would laugh at me, not get angry... See my point, or should I bring it down a notch?

what have I done? :)

I'll have a quarter-pound Thickburger and fries to go please.

People, seriously, you've taken over this poor OP's thread with the fights that at first seemed like a contribution, but then later just grew into an insignificant and very childish "I'm right - you're wrong" flame. Okay, we get it, there are people who absolutely love the school, and the ones that absolutely hate it. Yeah, same with all the other colleges. Muffin17 has already stated that s/he thinks there's nothing wrong with Cornell as a school so there is nothing to prove anymore. We get the passionate feelings from the both sides but with the current situation (your cat fights), none of you are doing Cornell justice. Unless you're intending to get back to the original topic (OP's troubles coping with her/his uni), please open a new thread somewhere where you could go on and on with "Oh, wow, your logic is so great!" "No, yours is great!" and move out of this thread.
Thanks! :)

"I'll have a quarter-pound Thickburger and fries to go please." Naturally, Caillebotte has heard this phrase ad nauseum and doesn't even know when it just pops up in his head however out of context it may sound... Wow, this is almost like a scientific study on the effects of Cornell education and primordial minds.

Boho girl: your point is well taken. Yes, it's not worth quibbling over the pros and and cons of a school. You either like it or you don't. The problem arises when people won't allow alternative thoughts or opinions because somehow they are interpreted as a direct comment on them, and thus their anger rising. A sign of insecurity I've seen before...

"Muffin17 has already stated that s/he thinks there's nothing wrong with Cornell as a school so there is nothing to prove anymore."

Somebody had a very hard time understanding this, and they caused problems as a result.

"By the way, she doesn't know anything about the film department at Harvard. Again, that's expected"

haha, hilarious! You're in total denial when proven wrong. Why don't you look up the academic departments at Harvard, and sprinkle me with some knowledge about their film department. I'll be waiting.

"you'll see a pattern of her using very advanced words like "stupid" over and over again"

I had to dumb down my words for you. You read the statement "I don't hate Cornell" and said "since you hate Cornell..." I knew we had a rogue poster on our hands.

"You may have gone to or still is going to Cornell and if you are happy in your department, finding it challenging and rewarding, that's great. You might be in the minority"

Now you're trying sooo hard to make good arguments and upset people (note: you're failing). This statement is WAY out there. I'm starting to doubt you even have a college education, I can't see why anybody with a college diploma would say a statement as ridiculous as this. You also keep saying the same things over and over again (without proof, none the less). Your first few posts on this forum have embarrased you too much, just suck up defeat and move on.

"The problem arises when people won't allow alternative thoughts or opinions"

I've heard this statement before. Ahmadinejad said the same thing. He questions the existance of the holocaust because 'people wont allow alternative thoughts or opinions'.

You have problems because YOU won't allow alternative thoughts or opinions. You claim Cornell is "outdated" when I've given some very damning evidence to the contrary. I'm open to alternative thought, but you have yet to provide any evidence of your own (and talking about an email glitch or about the film makers who came from harvard doesn't count as a legit proof - and you know this). I'm still waiting for you to offer some sort of proof to your claims, any day now would be nice...

Gomestar just can't seem to acknowledge that she loves Cornell and move on. My point about people like her... She sees my opinions as a direct comment on her and can't seem to shake it off... What a psycho... Now she's linking me with a leader of a rogue nation... Ha ha ha... This is indeed an scientific experiment...She doesn't realize how ridiculous she sounds because she's absolutely fueled by her anger. Again, my point about people taking this WAY out of context... Hilarious...Cornell is in Ithaca and reality is somewhere else... Gomestar can't seem to understand that her behavior downgrades Cornell's reputation as a fine educational institution...

Oh give it up, man up to your statments and show some proof. If you want to come into this forum and make ridiculous claims, be prepared to back them up.

Also, quit with the male chauvinism. Somebody says something that upsets you, and in turn you respond by calling them a woman as part of your argument. It's rude, show some class.

Calling who a woman? Oh, gomestar's a guy? Why don't you simply ask the other person to address you as a guy or is that too tough for you? Why would I address you as a woman had I known you were a guy? You really need to chilll, buddy...

You need to start coming up with your own original thoughts and not resort to cutting and pasting. It shows lack of conception. That maybe have worked for you at Cornell but that's not the real world...

I'm not telling you if I'm a guy or a gal. But I do find it weird that you immediately pick one side and then push it time and time again. I have NO indication of gender, but I think it's an interesting comment on your character. And now you're trying to hound me for a "lack of conception", wildly entertaining!

I'm still waiting for you to back up your statements, fyi. I'm starting to think you can't.
