Hi,

I'm a third-year at a large public university. I'm really unsatisfied with my college life so far. I didn't join enough clubs, I have a low GPA, and I felt I'd picked the wrong major. I didn't do anything about those things because I had depression for a few years so I was in a bit of a malaise.

I feel that I'll always be angry at myself for not putting enough effort into having the wholesome college experience (socially involved, good gpa, going on exchange, nice internships and etc.).

However, I feel that if I were to transfer and get a degree in a different major then I'd be able to redeem myself.

Is my plan realistic? Should I just suck it up and finish my degree at my current institution?

Nicole, you sound like many college juniors who realize their college career is coming to an end. It sounds like you have grown up and realized that you may not have done all of the things you would have liked to do. You still have this semester to finish as strong as possible and all of next year to put your best foot forward academically and socially. You may want to start with using your time over winter break to reconsider the courses you are taking next semester and possibly add some courses that may be more to your liking or that will allow you to to go forward with a minor. It is possible that by taking a couple classes during the winter and in the summer will allow you to go in another direction. Have you considered applying for internships? I don’t know what your GPA is but most internships do require a good GPA and some experience through school ECs. That may not be possible for you this summer until you get your GPA up so think about taking classes this summer and doing really well and than continuing that level of excellence next semester and all of next year. Join some clubs this semester that are related to your current major and in the major you think you would like. There is no reason that you can’t gain skills in another area before graduating but it will require work.

What is your current major and what is it about that major that has you disinterested?
