I did Geometry in 9th grade, I will be doing A2 in 10th, and then I am in the IB program. I am gonna take Precalc over next summer, but for some reason for Math HL (which includes calculus) you need AP Calc, and as it is a 2 year class, I would need to take Calc next summer. I cannot double up on math. Am I screwed mathwise?

That sounds weird. Could you maybe take Calc alongside math HL next year? I would try and see if you could do that, try and make an exception with a GC or something. I never did IB so I don’t know the content of the class.

My understanding is that the AP Calculus A material is what’s specifically needed for IB Math HL (prerequisite). At our school, IB Math HL is a combo class with AP Calc BC. IB diploma candidates take the HL test, and some also take the AP test, since it’s supposed to be easier.

It’s annoying that there isn’t a detailed course syllabus for IB tests like for AP, so there’s always more confusion involved. You might ask the Math HL teacher for some specific information.

No, A is just Precalc. The track goes A1 -> Geometry -> A2 -> Precalc -> Calc AB -> IB Math HL if there are two years left / IB Math SL if there is one year left.
