I Hate The Common App!

Is anyone else running out of room filing it online? Under ECs, not only does it not let you show what your actual EC is (non-varsity sport? I can't even pick the actual sport?), but the awards/positions section barely lets me list, under orchestra, "principal, chamber orchestra" before I run out of room. I'm going to attatch a separate resume, but this is rediculous...I'd really like to type my application, since it looks so much prettier than handwriting (and I really don't feel like writing the same thing five times), but I don't know how to work around this. Anyone else having the same problem? Ideas?

that's why i didn't use the online common app. i typed and printed in. however i didn't run into space problems for some individual colleges with their own app online.

Well...your alternative is filling out a different application for every school to which you choose to apply. I suggest you thank your lucky stars that Common App exists.

wait, the common app is out already for fall semester??? oh crap. somebody let me know what's going on.

Yeah, filling them out individually would suck, but you can't blame me for being frustratrated that I can't even list my major accomplishments. And banedon, I'm kind of computer-illiterate (well, not that much)...how did you type it in and print? Did you scan it or use the online app. to type?

Also, I my environmentally-firnedly conscious feels kind of guilty at wasting paper...For schools such as Middlebury (that are eco-obsessed), would it be better to file it online and use the extra comments section for my resume? I have to send in a graded assignement to Middlebury anyway, so I guess it'd be easier to just mail the whole thing, but I'd imagine they'd slightly rather have the online one.

And funkmasta, it is out...either check any of the common app. schools that have sent you applications (most of them don't even have their own anymore) or go to the website. You can access it all online even if you don't plan on filing it online.

"wait, the common app is out already for fall semester??? oh crap. somebody let me know what's going on."

It's been out since early August.

when you attatch your own resume, do you just send it to each individual college with your name on it?

i want to fill it out online b/c it's free but how do i attach a resume?

I was thinking the same thing. I think I'm going to give it to my GC to send in.

liz? usually they tell you to put your name and SSN on every paper you send in.

I almost feel like sending in the paper version. I too, am running out of characters online.

How bad would it look if I printed off the Common App, wrote my info by hand, and then sent photocopies instead of rewriting the same thing like six times? Can we even do that?

Hah that sounds bad, but when you think about it, isn't the point of the Common App to easily send applications to multiple schools?

You could copy/paste the awards/EC's that you couldn't fit in those sections into the additional information section.
