My boss has an attitude towards me (and I have always been nice). She keeps adding hours to my shift schedules so she can get free work with less money being spent, she is downright disrespectful to me.

If only the library wasnt my only source of volunteering near me...

This would have all been better if I was paid... But I am taking all this crap even while working for free.

a) Speak up. Tell her you can’t work that much. I imagine she’s doing this while you’re standing by in silence.

b) Why volunteer? It’s not necessary to get into college…

My boss told me I looked like a whore who should get molested. There’s a reason I’m not back again! You can always find something else for EC.

I sincerely doubt that the library is the only place for you to volunteer. If your boss is miserable to be around, then by all means stop working there, but I am sure there are plenty of other options. If you can’t think of any off the top of your head, give some of these a thought:

-volunteer to babysit for some overworked parents for free for a few hours (maybe one night every few weeks?)
-find out through your school or another one nearby if there are students in need of a peer tutor
-volunteer at a park cleanup day or if you don’t have one, contact your town gather a few friends, and spend some time on your own cleaning up the park
-if there is a nonprofit with offices in your town, volunteer to stuff some envelopes of do other administrative work
-if your town has a parks and rec department, contact them and see what sort of summer camps, classes, or youth programs they offer and see if you can volunteer with those

So see, if you put yourself out there and seek out opportunities, there are always people who would love your help! Unless you live in a town without overworked parents, schools, nonprofits, or parks…then it might be a little more difficult ;)

Thank you sweetchemistry!
