I hate you Jane Eyre...

Bah,

So I got my book list for my ENG 398 class, and they are making me read Jane Eyre again - I mean, I tackled it in HS (AP Lit) and now I have to do it all over again.

reads

How the heck can anyone enjoy this book!? :D

All of the Brontes suck. Good luck.

Wow...I just posted about Jane Eyre like 30 seconds ago. I'm guessing you are male. I read it in 7th grade and loved it. Pretend you are taking your girlfriend to a chickflick and deal with it. At least its better than Wuthering Heights (gothic hard core).

I liked Jane Eyre!

Hated it as well.

eyre can suck it.

i used to really like jane eyre and mr. rochester too but then i thought man mr. rochester is so selfish, all of his actions were for himself and he didn't consider how they would affect jane, and jane is stupid for loving a guy like that when she couldve done much better

i know its supposed to be empowering because she made the final choice but i didnt see it that way

I swear to god, this is the book that makes me read 10x slower than I usually do... I always get distracted.

we just read Jane Eyre in AP Lit and my teachers says that the illegit wife... omg i already forgot her name... has syfilus?! what? did she make that up lol

Bertha?

I don't think so... she's just insane imo.

Yeah Jane Eyre was an annoying book to read.
And everyone keeps telling me I'm probably going to have to reread it in college.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO....

Any girls averse to the book should check out Masterpiece Theater's miniseries of it. It's a total chick flick and the actor they cast as Mr. Rochester is quite handsome (Toby Stephens). If you enjoy the miniseries, you may be able to sit through the book better.

"Some critics have argued that the character of Edward Rochester's first wife, Bertha, in Charlotte Bront

Boo!

I remember reading nothing but that kind of literature when I was in AP Lit. Pride and Prejudice, Tess of The D'urbevilles, Rebecca - there was no respite :( :( :(.

Jane Eyre is...
a slow read.
It's kind of obnoxious that just when things get happy everything goes down the drain...
But I'm still only like 4/5 of the way through.
enjoying it so far.

Jane Eyre is a good read, though it takes forever. I read it for a book report, and I had to stick to a schedule to finish it. I liked how it actually went somewhere, and it wasn't just observations. However, I read Wuthering Heights first, and I didn't even finish it because it was so boring. That was for an earlier book report. We received the prompts ahead of time, so I just picked the one about style and mood and wrote a really good essay based on the first half of the book.

I like Jane Eyre. It was a good read.

This is one of my favorite books. I read it when I was about eight years old and it still is a favorite. This was, of course before computers and video games, so reading was done for pleasure. My children feel like most of you do. They think it is old fashioned and dull. At least watch the movie versions to become familiar with some classic literature. (Had to post to stand up for Jane!)

I liked Jane Eyre. I read it over the summer before 10th grade, for myself. And I like Wuthering Heights, too, though not as much.

I loved Jane Eyre. Reading this forum makes me want to go and reread it!
