I have a 2.68 GPA and I desperately want to go to a UC

So I'm a junior right now, and probably some of you have read my other thread. I got pretty bad grades last semester and last year they were average, 1-2 A's, the rest being B's. UC's dont really count freshman year, so yeah. Right now, I have high B+'s/A's in all my classes and I'm pretty sure I can raise my grades and get straight A's.

I don't want to go to any top-tier UC like Berkeley or LA -- just UC Irvine or Davis (those are my top two choices) ... Santa Cruz is cool too, but it's not my "OMG I GOT ACCEPTED I'M TOTALLY GOING!" - schools, I'd reconsider it.

I'm liking Cal Poly SLO and San Diego State University too -- but those are supposed to be the CSU's with different standards.

For starters, if it isn't too late, take as many AP/Honors/College classes as you can handle. Those really boost your UC GPA.

Is your GPA really a 2.68, or was that a typo?

Better do really well on the SAT/ACT, and work that upward GPA trend!

You must have done really bad last semester if you have a 2.68 and only got B's and A's last year...

A 2 point something means you're strewn in C's or lower... Are you sure 2.68 is the right number? Is 2.68 your 10 through 12 GPA or your total?

it's 9 - 11.

No, it's not a typo -- that's what it says on Parent Connect.

yeah freshman year -- I went from a public middle school to a catholic private school and well .. I didn't do very well freshmen year. I got B's/C's. (Make that 1 B, the rest beings C's)

Last semester -- my depression got to me and I got a D in Trig. I know, wonderful, right? (the rest were 1 B, and 4 C's .. I know I was really disappointed in myself as well)

But this semester I'm doing wonderfully better. (3 B+'s, 3 A's)
- MY SCHOOL HAS NOT CALCULATED THIS SEMESTER'S GRADES INTO MY GPA AS OF YET.

UCs only consider 10 through 12 grades. But the problem is your last semester grades.

One D and four C's? Nothing personal, but I think that the schools you want to go to may be a stretch unless you find some way to make up your grades.

Take summer school to make up the grades, especially the D. I've never heard of anyone get into a semi-competitive UC with a D in a non-AP class.

wow tough catholic school. what was the name of it?

San Jose.
Notre Dame.

Yeah, I know, I'm taking Trig at my JC over the summer. I need to in order to get into Calc AP Senior year.
Plus, I've taken summer courses at the same JC before -- Intermediate Algebra after freshman year (I got an A), General Psych last summer (I got a B). This summer I'm planning to take Physics, Trig, and Developmental Psych.

(I think I want to major in Psych btw)

And Gryffon5417 -- I totally understand your reaction. My school doesn't offer an Honors class for Trig/Precalc, so it's considered an "honors class in itself" because we needed a B or better in Algebra II (the class I got an A in) in order to get in.

I'm really disappointed considering I got straight A's my whole time at Public Schools.

There's this one UC that accepts almost everyone. It's new, I think it's Mercred or something? You can probably still get into most CSU's. Do you have a reason you can put down as an explanation for those grades?

I wouldn't worry too much, so be cool about it and just get the best grades/SAT scores and stuff right now.

I know this one kid who got a good SAT score and had a GPA of 3.0 and got accepted to UC Riverside.
He also applied to UC Irvine and is waiting a response.
If you have strong ECs and score good on test you can have a shot at the less competitive UC Schools like Riverside, Santa Cruz, and Davis...maybe Irvine too...

1) my dad hates uc riverside.
2) i took the SAT once, i got a 1845, but that's a pretty average-ish score so im studying like crazy to get over a 2200

SAT scores are all divisible by 10

you couldn't have gotten a 1845

oh really, cause how did my friend get a 1677 or something that wasnt divisible by ten. I SAW IT!

but yes, that isnt the actual score i got.
im already pretty embarrassed by my grades, and my score's average, but everyone here is like super smart.
