I Have A Problem and I Don't Know What To Do

I got my ACT scores sent to the colleges that i have applied to and they sent me a letter today that said:

"In preparing the score report, we noticed that your Social Security/ACT ID number listed in our records as --***. Because these records can no longer be changed, this number will appear on the report we have sent. You may wish to call or write the institution to inform them of this information."

Here is the problem. The social security number they have written down(of course it isn't exactly what is listed above) doesn't have enough numbers and what is there is no where close to my social security number.

What is this letter telling me?

You should call or write to your colleges informing them of this mistake.

Do i tell them that the wrong SS number is on the ACT scores?

yes, you want to make sure the ACT scores haven't been misfiled.

The college said that they already got my scores. Should i email them?

yeah, u definately should...bec what if they sent someone else's scores? I mean, if u got 800's, u wouldn't want that.

An 800 on an ACT? And i thought that the top score was 36.

Anyway, I doubt that they sent someone else's scores but i think that my scores have the wrong SS number on them, hell if i know why. I am not sure if they even need them, since i have been in college for two years now but just incase, i have emailed the university.

Are you sure that what is listed is an attempt at a social security number? Did you even give ACT your social security number?

Given the number of blanks, I suspect that what you have there is the ACT identification number, which is what they assign if the applicant doesn't give them a SS number.

Do you have the original registration confirmation and/or score report? That would confirm the situation.

My daughter took the ACT twice and didn't give them her SSN either time. So ACT assigned its own ID numbers (a different one each time). As I recall, we had to contact ACT and change her records to be in her SSN. Otherwise we thought schools would be confused.

(As it turns out, the only ACT reports sent immediately had been to the NCAA Clearinghouse and it DID get confused. They created two files for my daughter and we went through a hairy two weeks trying to get eligibility for competition. I can't remember how many times she told them to "merge her files." Yeesh ...)

Since you are in college and it says it has your scores, I don't think this is a real problem. Maybe the ACT record is too old to change the number? Anyway, who would you conceivably send your ACT score to at this point?
