So..I'm new to the site..and this looked like the place to ask..so.

I go to a local community college, and aspent a year as a computer major before quitting school due to poor grades. a few years later I came back, re-enrolled as a art major, and had good grades during th summer, but due to my former classes was put on financial aid probation. so. fall happens and i fo excellent, all a's and bs. and heres where it gets confusing.

as of my last communication from the college, despite them requiting less than 90 hours attempted, 67% completion ratio, and a 2.0 grade average for my financial aid..I was put on suspension.

The strange part is in this same letter it says I have a 67% completion rate )(thanks to my old major. my new major is more like 100% ;/ ), far less than 90 hours attempted, and a 3.02 GPA. Anyone have any sort of insight?

Is it possibly because theres a form the college mentioned on the site when i did some digging that would make my old major classes not count anymore that I dont think I've filled out?

any other suggestions?

It depends on the SAP (satisfactory academic progress) requirements for your school.

Generally SAP counts all your attempted hours (including any withdrawals after the add/drop period) ever in college. Not just the ones in your new major. At the schools I am familiar with SAP requirements are that you successfully complete 75% of all attempted credit hours. So the 67% is a fairly low requirement.

It does seem odd that you were on probation last semester and suspended this semester if you met all the requirements of your probationary period. I would suggest going in and talking to a financial aid officer.

Planning to do so tommorow. Just wanted to know if there was some strange hidden something or other that could have caused it that wasnt listed in their requirements because Its…rather confusing to have a letter say you were denied…then have a side by side table that shows my requirements all meeting or exceeding their requirements as their explanation for why i was denied.

It is odd. Did you meet the required number of hours? (often full time status).

Hope you can get it all sorted out.

Yes. I was doing 15 Credit hours last semester.

Hopefully it is a mistake of some sort. Go in and talk to them ASAP. Good luck - let us know how it turns out.

Well, thats what it appears to be. Unless there was some other requirement they didnt even mention that happened to not be met, I cant find any other viable explanation.

Well, I went in today, and there was bad and good news.

The Bad News, is percentilewise I was .2 percent off from 67% apparently.

The good, is after talking to a financial aid advisor, she spoke with the head of the department, and told me that given my grades have all been As or Bs since returning to college, that I simply needed to file an appeal, and they would restore my money to me for buying books immediately, because its pretty much assured the head financial officer would approve the appeal. so. Everythings straightened out and I am primed to go to classes next week :)

That’s great news. I am glad you got it sorted out. I am guessing you will probably be on probation still for the semester. Make sure you meet all the requirements this upcoming semester. Good luck.
