I have a question

I just realized that before signing up for College Confidential, you are required to put in an email address. I also had a bizarre thought that some admission officers might be able to trace your application to your account on CC and would probably have access to everything you've posted. I'm not saying they'll do this for all applicants but they might do it for some people, you never know. I can't afford this cuz I've said some things that probably wouldn't portray me in a positive image. Is this possible or am I just being paranoid?:(

pm the admins and post the answer here. it's a good question.

You could always give colleges a separate "just for college stuff" email addy.

penn_dreamer

That is a really weird question because you are presuming that folks who are addy heads would go through all of that trouble.

However, it would not hurt to do a e mail addy only for University stuff:)

I mean, I cannot invision anyone looking crap up about you on a web site unless you have been curing cancer in your off hours from reading to the blind and donating plasma at your local hospital while taking either AP or Honors classes all year round.

No one is going to go through all that trouble for anyone.

i wouldn't recommend using a school email address for collegeconfidential.

Uh-Oh......

penn_dreamer

I was not like, totally referring to you personally. I am sure you are cool:) I just cannot see an addy head getting that far up anyones business.

I have separate email addresses for college, online forums, and personal use just to stay organized...

i have (4!) main ones. looks like i win.

I just hope that penn_dreamer is not your standard e-mail address because I don't think that any other top college would be very happy to see your interests lie somewhere else ;)

But yeah, I usually try to keep everything separate now. My yahoo account for forums, then I have my school account for facebook, and then my other two for random things, but yeah, it's good to make up a separate account when applying to colleges so that you can keep this information separate from all of your other mail, just make sure to keep up on it.

You're paranoid. That would never, ever happen.

If you commit a crime and flee to Swizterland, maybe INTERPOL would track down your CC comments. No college admissions officer has the time, resources, or interest. They cannot somehow track your real name to the name "Penn_dreamer." Unless your parents were hippies and that's your real name too.

It is impossible.

Okay, I guess I'll have to create a new e-mail account for the college process.

Almost the entire MIT admissions crew has access to this site. lol .. if i met ben jones..i'd be like "dude your blogs and posts on cc are so freaking awesome. by the way, i go by sarorah. yeah .. you responded to a couple of my threads. excellent posts. yeah i've basically been there since 8th grade, been super interested in college...i'd probably be a great match for your school. ;)"

I can't speak for other schools but MIT is only here to be helpful, not to judge anyone on what is posted here. See my blog entry on the topic for more specifics...

(and thanks for the compliment sarorah! :-)
