I have already been accepted to a college, but...

I got a letter from Carnegie Mellon in December stating that I have been admitted to the university under ED but they want a midyear report from me. I'm very worried now about my current grades because I'm not doing so well in my 3 AP classes. The grades aren't out yet but I think I have a B in AP Physics C, B-/C+ in Calculus BC, and a B in Macroeconomics. I have never gotten so many B's in one semester but I've never taken AP classes before. Plus I will major in Engineering and anything worse than an A in BC and Physics will certainly look bad.

So my question is: when Carnegie Mellon sees my midyear report, will they withdraw my admission? How bad would the grades have to be for an ED school to withdraw admission? This is the end of the first semester and there is nothing I can do to change my grades. What can I do to help the situation?

PS If someone is also going through the rigors of AP classes, please feel welcome to share your concerns and strategies to do well in AP classes.

I'm in a similar situation. I was admitted early to Kenyon with mostly A's and very few B's on my transcript. I'd be very surprised if you were kicked out because of B's. However, this semester with five AP classes on top of everything else, it's looking like I could have up to three C's, one B and three A's. That's the worst case scenario, and but I will definitely have at least one C, most likely two. People still tell me not to worry, but I can't help it.

I don't think there is any specific formula that colleges follow when interpreting midyear reports, but I don't think you have to worry too much. You could call them ahead of time and explain your situation if that would make you feel any better?

Best of luck, but I really don't think you should worry too much!

I'm sure isn't going to be a problem. It is tough when you take 3 or more AP's, especially if you haven't taken them before. Send your Ad com a letter either with your transcrips or seperately explaining the situation, you seem to be a concerned student. I am sure the admissions would rather see you challenge yourself with a little lower grades! Study very hard, use the AP Practice Exam Book (Princeton or the like) along with your study packets from class (plus it will make it easier when you do have to study for the AP exam), remember second semester goes a little quicker since the AP Exam is in May, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck guys!

C in ap calc bc is not gonna help. cmu is on of these schools that when it comes to math and you want to major in engineering, it is best to get an A. I heard that CMU only look at SAT math II score of 700 or better.
So better keep ur AP cal grade up
