I am not sure if I will be happy to see the campus. I heard though my family friends, skip Wayne. Not safe for girls. Is it true? But I hate to miss out on Medstart program. I will apply and see.

It’s okay…
Wayne State is mainly a commuter school. Some of the buildings are nice, but here’s not much of a campus-y feel, as most people aren’t around at night, and no one’s there during the weekend. So the campus is quite limited, and you CAN NOT just leave campus and go out, as Detroit is rather unsafe. If you live on campus, you’ll basically be hanging out with the same people 24/7, which may not always be a good thing.

And it’s downtown Detroit. Crime, gangs, homeless people, you name it. You can’t just walk around and go somewhere. There’s virtually no public transportation, so you’re stuck if you don’t have a car. I would not recommend going out at night.

Criticisms aside, Wayne State Medstart does have some great advantages. Medstart students can apply out to different med schools without losing their guaranteed spot at Wayne. The university pays for EVERYTHING, from your tuition to your room to your books and laptop. DMC is a great place to volunteer and do research.
Medstart kids are seriously the ROCKSTARS of Wayne State.

Soooo…I would say def apply to Medstart. See what happens. Then evaluate the pros and cons.
