I have NO IDEA where to transfer.

I currently attend a private four year college. Academics are fairly decent socially its horrible. Although I tried to set anything social aside, when I deciding wether or not to transfer, it simply comes down to that I am unhappy and the school is not my "fit". I attend Hood College. Unfortunately I chose it for the wrong reasons. Mainly because of the scholarships it offered and because it was close to home which is convenient. My GPA at the end of the semester should be around a 3.3 -3.4 . I have no clue what I will be majoring in. I would like to stay in the area (maryland/DC/virginia?..). It may be a long shot but I have been toying with the idea of applying to American University and UMD but have no idea what my chances would be.I still have another semester here. Any advice will be use full.

You should be able to get into American and UMD, might also want to try GMU as a saftey.

The only thing I’m concerned with is that American’s tuition is ~45,000/yr – and you said you chose to attend Hood because of its scholarships. You have to have at the very least a 3.5 when you apply to American (and you should start applying to schools in the next month or so) to even be considered for scholarships as a transfer.

I’d apply to those three schools and tack on another one too. Though after applications, I’d spend your holiday break doing research on the social aspects and wandering around the campuses. (All excpet GMU’s main campus are easily metro accesible) to see which one feels like home. The absolute last thing you want is to transfer and feel the same way.

If you have any questions about AU and the transfer process there, feel free to message me. I just finished the whole process and will be starting there in the spring – but I’ve already spent a semester there because of a study abroad program.

Several good schools to consider, UVA, VT, JMU, GMU, William&Mary, GWU, GeorgeTown, UMCP, UMBC.
You should go visit the schools and talk to students about your concerns. Check out school web sites. Look for whatever you feel missing in your current school.

Thank you two so much! I sent both of you a message. If it did not get to you please let me know because I may have made a mistake when sending them. Again thank you so much I truly appreciate it!

regarding GeorgeTown VT and others, I feel that because of my GPA I would not have a high change of being accepted.
