I’m a junior in HS and right now I’m taking AP Calc AB and I (think) I’m interested in being an engineer major. Next year, I plan on taking AP Econ, AP Language, AP Physics, and AP Statistics. I decided on these four because before recently I was having a hard time in AP Calc AB so I didn’t really want to take BC as a senior and have it lower my GPA.
Now though, I feel like the rigor and education is kind of worth it? Is it better to take BC next year instead of Physics or Stats so I could be ready in college or is it fine if I take my original four and focus on getting A’s on all of them? I dont know if its better to have a high GPA my senior year for college applications or to take BC and continue learning. I’m interested mostly in Electrical Engineering but I’m not too sure, if that helps.
What is your GPA?
What classes are you currently taking and what other courses would you take next year?
Which AP Physics is it?
AP Calculus BC is a review of AP Calc AB with a couple more chapters so it probably wouldn’t be to hard.
I would take AP Calc BC, AP Physics, AP Lang and possibly AP Econ (depending on how many APs you took this year).
Yes you should take BC. Don’t worry BC will be a lot easier than AB, considering BC is review and a few new chapters. BC is only difficult if you take it w/o taking Calc AB.
I’d say remove either AP econ or AP Lang for BC, unless there are scheduling issues in which case I’d say drop AP Stats. They consider rigor when they consider your GPA, as an aspiring engineer major they expect your exhaust all the math, science, and engineering classes at your disposal.
Right now my GPA is a full 4.67 because I have straight A’s with Japanese 3-4 and piano being my easier classes and
APUSH, Honors English 11, and Honors Phsyics. Next year I plan on taking Econ because I think I’d like that class a lot b/c I’m interested in the subject, AP Physics because I heard it was good to take but I honestly am not as interested, AP Lang because I would really like to have help with college app’s as well as just generally be better at English, and AP Stats because I’m a little interested? but also because it was a replacement for BC.
I would much rather remove Physics if that was possible but I don’t know if AP Physics is really important to my engineering major. My other classes is Show Choir Tech because thats just my easy class to help out with some friends and have spare time to do hw and then Health 1 semester(required) then the second semester I’d be able to focus on AP tests and have a job to kinda help out with the money problem.
There is also the option to take BC at a community college nearby (1 semester) and it costs not so much I think. I know of a few people who are taking that route and was curious myself until I kinda got scared by AB haha. The reason they told me they were taking BC there was because they would just have to maintain a C and get college credit so basically bypassing BC.
If you don’t like physics[as a subject, rather than the teacher who teaches it or your fellow classmates), I advise you reconsider your career choice to be an engineer, while it mostly involves creativity and design, it also involves a lot of math(which you seem genuinely interested in) and physics.
I honestly think it’s the teacher. I’m fine with the class but I’d just prefer not to take it haha. Would taking AP physics over AP Stats be better?
For a prospective engineer? Without a doubt.
Would it be better to take it at a community college for one semester as a senior in high school so I’m guaranteed college credit with a C or should I stick with the BC at my school got the whole year?
Unless you want to pay for the course and transportation, take it at your school.
Whether college credit transfers over, depends on the University, they are not universal like AP credits[which very few schools like MIT/Caltech don’t refuse].
