Hey everyone. Our summer assignment for English next year is to come to class dressed as Mark Twain (we had to read "Huckleberry Finn") and also come dressed as one of the main characters of our choice. I don't want to go out and spend a ton of money buying clothes, and I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas on what I could wear. We have to "impersonate" these people. Have any of you had similar assignments? Thanks!

Dress as Huck, you'd just have to wear dirty old clothes : )

I'm very glad that isn't my ap english assignment. Can you make clothes? That wouldn't cost much to just buy some fabric.

Yeah, I wish it wasn't my assignment either. You have to do all 8 of the assignments to get a 100%. But, there are two dress-up assignments, so if I don't do both, I'll have a 90% and I don't want to start the year off on the edge, ya know? Thanks for the suggestions. Any more?

What about Jim? Same deal as Huck -- raggedy clothes, maybe a straw hat or something? It's also how you see the characters being, right?

And btw: this is my favorite book of all time

not mine. I hate this book. with a vengence. Anyways...

even if you don't have raggedy clothes, you probably have a neighbor or relative who does

Yeah, that's what I'll probably end up doing... What about for Mark Twain? How could I exactly "dress" as him?

Is there a costume supply or theater supply store nearby. Maybe they can provide some economically sensitive ideas. lol

Do not portray Jim in blackface or other culturally disrespectful manner!

a thrift shop is the best place to get some cheap clothes. i bet you can get a whole outfit for around 5 bucks or just a little bit.

for huck finn i would recommend a pair of pants (suit type of pants but rageddy and dirty), a white dirty shirt, a pair of suspenders, and maybe a old fashion hat. the type men from the early 1900s wore.

Thank you! :)

the classic mark twain look is an all-white suit

For Twain, think Colonel Sanders and you won't be far off.

For the character, I'd suggest Pap, because the costume's practically the same general idea as Huck or Jim, just adding a whiskey jug. Plus, how much more fun would it be to act like a drunk, abusive father than boring old Huck?

Thanks guys!

Bah, dress as the Duke. I imagine it would be more fun.

Or Aunt Polly, if you want to start the school year off on the edge, you rebel, you.
