I heard only one of uc berkeley/ucla accepts you. I need help!

So, I have the ELC number
I have an okay GPA: 3.9 unweighted
extracurriculars: I'm on ASB and have a ton of community service hours

But i still don't think it's good enough to get into both.

SHOULD I CANCEL MY APPLICATION TO BERKELEY??
(i have no desire to go there, but UCLA is my top choice school. My mom made me apply.. -facepalm-)

HELP MEEE

Also, keep in mind that a kid at my school who graduated last year had straight As his entire high school career and all 5s or 4s on his ap tests and still only got accepted into Berkeley. -___-

you have to realize that that isn’t that impressive. i mean, i’m not trying to be brag, but i accomplished that while taking as many APs and honors (well almost, but you get the point) that i could each and every year.

(when you find someone with a 36 act, 2400 sat, 240 psat, and straight 800s on the physics, chem, bio, and math 2 subject tests then we’ll talk about academic prowess =])

also, i heard the same thing from a friend; i think he decided to not apply to berkeley because he was worried about what you just said; he wants to go to ucla the most too.

i don’t know if it’s true or not though.

Maybe it’s uncommon for someone to be accepted to both schools, but it’s definitely happened before.

Two students in my school last year were accepted to Berkeley and UCLA. They had extremely impressive academic records and equally flattering extracurriculars.

You can get accepted to both berk and ucla so dont sweat it…trust

Yeah, i’ll admit my SAT is only 2170 and my school isn’t really the best one out there.

I’m thinking I just cancel the application to Berkeley then?

Many get accepted to both UCLA and Berkeley. It is thus a myth that one cannot get into both. It is simply a truism that many don’t get into both but there is no conspiracy going on to assure applicants are invited to only one. Nevertheless, if you are relying on ELC you may not make either. All ELC assures is admission to “a” UC. Most of those get invited to the lower ranked UCs. Note, however, you still have chances even without ELC. 2170 is actually decent for both and if SAT IIs are high, you have possibilities.

all the uc’s have separate admissions and they do not share information on applicants. So cal doesn’t know who ucla is admitting, etc. gpa and how many other kids from your california high school get in, is a bigger factor than your SAT, Cal/ucla SAT scores are not that high, gpa’s are!

This is three years ago, but my son got accepted to both UCLA and Cal. He also got into UCSD. Oddly, UCSC turned him down :-)

I know other kids who got accepted to both. Including one last year.
