i attended june 6-7 calso. I went there on 5th and stayed in residence hall one more day.

first of all, IT WAS GREAT.

counselors were amazing, program itself was VERY informative and fun, food was great, now i feel a lot more comfortable. :)

i’ll just briefly write what i did so people can have some idea.

I took the shuttle from oakland airport to bart station and i took the bart to down town berkeley. and i took bus #51 and got off at “telegraph”

I went to unit 3 residence hall to check in. (from telegraph, you actually have to walk down little bit… i walked up… yes…)

i stayed in triple with two of my friends from my high school.

just let you know… our room was FREEZING at night… I had to wake up every 30 min (not joking) to wear some more clothings… So try to turn the heater on behind the desk. Ours was broken. If you think yours is broken, you can ask for more blankets. It was much better on the second night with 2 extra blankets per person… lol

bring a backpack. they DO give you many stuffs. one of my friend brought a purse and it wasn’t pleasant.

During the program you don’t really have time to go get something from your dorm room. So you might want to bring at least a water bottle with you and a sweatshirt in case it gets cold in the late afternoon.

one-to-one academic advising was really helpful. One thing that they told us during academic advising was because of some reason ( i forgot ) the school might not offer many math classes as they did before. So they almost make you to sign up for math classes in phase 1. So if you are thinking about signing up math in phase 2( like i did) try to work that out.

if you have already satisfied the writing placement requirement through ap scores, be sure that the school has your score. One of the student from our group couldn’t sigh up for R&C course because the school didn’t have the ap score and the telebear wouldn’t let you to sign up.

During course sign up session, you have 45 minutes to look up class times, and sign up. So if you think that’s not enough, do some research at home so you don’t have to start from the scratch,

you walk ALOT. and like everybody knows… cal is hilly campus. so be SURE to wear comfortable shoes.

kinda skipping here and there… the residence halls do provide you pillow blanket, and 2 towels.

know your cal net number to make student ID card.

These are all i can think of right now… I’ll put up some more if i can remember…

I'm going June 30th...I have some questions:

How many hours of sleep did you get at night?

You said you stayed at unit 3...is it the same room/Residence hall you were assigned by housing for the fall?

Do they give you lunch the second day?

During those 45 minutes you get unrestricted access to internet right?

on the first night... so the day before the calso, i slept early cause literally people were showing up from 7:30..lol. and the second night, it depends. We had this night activities where you can go out and eat yogurt, or talk more with your counselor, watch movie, or play games. I played games until like 11 and went to sleep after midnight. But you can go to sleep earlier than that if you want to.

no the room that you are staying during calso, and the one that you will be living during academic year are different. For calso, they just assign you as you come. you stay with another student(s), and your parent(s) stay with another parents. (even parents stay in dorms)

No they don't. but food around berkeley.... is AMAZING :)

gokitty4;i signed up for math 1a (4units), econ 1 (4), and peace and conflict studies(2; freshmen and sophomore seminar)

oh and another thing you have to sign out before 9 am. you have to pack and bring your bags down, and they will hold them for you until 11 pm. so you just have to pick them up before 11 pm that day.

^ viromonkey, i used to be a calso counselor. if you really want to go, there is still a chance for you if you email askcalso@berkeley.edu and explain your situation.

"9. During course sign up session, you have 45 minutes to look up class times, and sign up. So if you think that's not enough, do some research at home so you don't have to start from the scratch"

What specific site did they have you look at to pick your classes? i'm confused about which classes to take...

First was June 6-7 for L&S students
Next was June 9-10 for CoE, Chem, Env Design students
This week, June 16-17, for L&S, CoE, CNR students
