Hello everyone,
I am so shocked right now, but I just got an email saying that I was accepted in Michigan's college of Literature Arts and Sciencs. I was logging into my email when I get this random email from michigan saying that I was accepted. I am so paranoid when it comes to announcement dates and I am usually all over my email around the time of decisions. I was not expecting an email from them for a couple months though. I had been deferred from them in Early Action with the "Bad Deferral" email in case anyone is wondering.

I go to Phillips Exeter Acadmy, the top Prep school in the nation and our average GPA that got into michigan was a 3.5 and a 2100 on the SAT. I am a first generation hispanic who live in a single parent household with my mom in NYC. I had a 3.2 GPA and a 1950.

I just don't know why I got this email so early.

go blue

I was also invited last year to go to Michigan’s Band Camp since I sent them a trumpet video. I’m not sure if this helped in an way.

Wouldn’t really say it’s early since plenty of EA deferees got accepted on the 10th.

Congratulations! Go Blue!

are you sure the email wasn’t sent on friday? that’s when the decisions were sent out.

This proves that Michigan has adopted a more holistic approach to admissions. They differentiate between between schools and personal circumstances.

The OP attends Phillips academy. TSAO schools are known for severe grade deflation. Generaly speaking, most 3.0-3.5 students at those schools will be admitted into Michigan, while a large chunk of 3.3-3.7 students at those schools will be admitted into the Ivy League.

Michigan also factored in the OP’s demographic and socio-economic background.

Congratulations! However, don’t drink the “bad-referral-letter” koolaid that goes around on the Mich threads. There really is not a good or bad deferral letter, and the sooner folks figure that out the sooner they can take a deep breath and be cautiously optimistic ;)
