this thread also made me really love the D board - everyone was just congratulating those that got likely letters, it was such a stark contrast to the Harvard board, where people would have been all bitter and dismissive of the likely letter recipient's accomplishment. ENJOY.

BUMP. Look how glad everyone is for each other!

so, how do you like it now that you're really there? my son has been set on dartmouth since he was a little kid -- and it really encourages me to read these posts to see how much everyone seems to love it there---i guess i need a little reassurance!

While I'll be the first to admit the workload can be tough--I'm about to start a 7-page midterm due tomorrow--I can honestly say there is nowhere else I would rather be. During my own convoluted college application process, I had no idea where I'd really be happy, but I'm now confident I made the right choice. I love my dorm, my floormates, (most of) the profs, and the surroundings. There aren't many schools where freshman "initiation" involves running around a scorching hot bonfire 100-odd times, or where the marching band sets its sousaphones on fire!

I know one thing...I am enjoying the Dartmouth life....Homecomming was great...the bonfire is hot and people are sooooooo hyped up...its cool tho. Academically my professors are literally blowing my mind I got some great ones this quarter. BTW chris, liting the sousaphones wasnt the hilarious part...It was rushing the field

Im an 09 and I love it here!

Ive already taken two of my professors to lunch and had a great time with both. Great courses! Im writing for one of the campus newspapers (working on my third article), DJ for the Dartmouth radio station (one night a week), made some incredible friends I know Ill have for years to come, been to numerous guest lectures, conferences and parties, had a great DOC trip good profs good courses good friends good parties good dorm good food good school good life and times.

Dartmouth offers a universe of great things...to a bunch of really good people.

thanks for your replies! my son is so excited--and so am i, but these reassuring comments reaffirm that he will be making the right choice!

thanks again!

Wow I feel really out of the loop...what exactly is a likely letter? Is it an acceptance letter?

haha i'm definitely not understanding either.. damn being a canadian.. i'm so lost!

Likely letters are usually sent out in 3 waves during the RD round.

The Admissions Office sends these letters to approximately 500 exceptional members of the regular-decision applicant pool that the office has decided to accept early in the process. The letters tacitly inform them of their acceptance well in advance of the official letter sent in early April on the common Ivy League mailing date.

here is an article about likely letters:

haha awww Chris, J and Emily, I'm so glad to see you're doing well! Sybbie, how are you?

i feel for the sake of the new candidates this post title should be ended so no one gets confused with the upcoming ed decisions and february's new likey letters..
