Here’s the full story, It’s a bit of a long one so if you’re strict on time, I recommend skipping this one.
According to Assist.org, my community college have no courses that articulate with the desired major courses at cal poly. But after reading the Cal Poly course catalog, I was convinced that the courses I have taken are identical to the desired courses at Cal Poly. So I grabbed my phone, and called the admissions office and asked them if I can list the desired courses as taken in the Transfer Supplemental, since both me and my counselor are convinced that the courses I have taken are identical pretty much identical. The guy on the phone didn’t even allow me to finish my sentence before answering, NO, YOU CAN’T!! But here’s the thing. Cal Poly has been my dream school since I entered college, and computer science is one of he most impacted majors at Cal Poly. out of almost 500 students, they only admit around 40, with the majority coming from Cuesta College. So without those desired courses, my chances of being admitted are almost non existent. So I wasn’t ready to give up just yet. Convinced that the admissions staff that answered me was an a**hole, I contacted the computer science department directly in an email. I explained my situation with an essay and was surprised that they actually took the time to read it and were rather sympathetic with my situation. They gave me the emails for the course coordinators of the two desired courses. I contacted both of them and they both agreed that the course’s I had taken indeed look equivalent to the desired courses. however, they said that If I was admitted, I’d have to petition to have the my two courses considered as equal to the ones taught at Cal Poly. But both the professors and admissions made it clear that if for some reason my petition gets refused, my admission could get rescinded, which is fancy word for “I WILL BE EXPELLED”. Which I thought, “Without those courses I wouldn’t make it in in the first place, sooo…”. But today I was talking to one of my classmates, and he told me that he knew people from my community college that applied without the desired courses and were approved, which means that I did have a chance of getting in without the desired courses, but I have screwed that chance. So I am now in full panic mode. Not only did I screw my chance of getting into my dream school, but I could have possibly screwed my chance of transferring to any other school, since if I indeed get admitted and I filed the petition, I imagine the process would take some time, and by the time the verdict is out, it would be too late to go anywhere else.
Wish me luck guys, I need it now more than ever!
