I just moved schools across the country, and recently came up with the idea to graduate early since there aren’t any true educational opportunities for me here next year.
I’ll be wanting and needing to apply for lots of merit and need based scholarships while on my gap year next year, and was wondering if it’s an issue that I won’t have been at either school for more than two years.
I’m a bit worried about my recommendations and also about my eligibility for certain scholarships like Robertson and Questbridge.
None of that will matter. Your gpa will be determined by the high school where you are graduated, and your final transcripts will come from there too. Scholarships you listed shouldn’t be an issue.
What may be an issue is residency at public schools. Have you lived in your new state at least a year? Have you attended high school there at least a year?
IIRC,
You cannot do a gap year and apply for questbridge because you are expected to start college fall after graduation
If money is really an issue, take your time, make sure your gpa and scores are on point. Wait to see if you will make national merit. Take advantage to do dual enrollment and stay for for senior year
Doesnt Robertson require a GC rec??? Can’t imagine that the GC of your new school would be recommending a student who went there a year, then was actually graduated during the app season.
I agree with Sybbie…stay where you are and do the best you can.
Why do you say that there’s nothing to take? Would you be allowed to do dual enrollment but stay senior year?

Agreed. Rarely have I ever seen an early graduate be able to get the merit they need or get into the “meets needs” competitive schools.
Do you mean traveling abroad while on a gap year? What do you mean by the above? If you were to graduate in spring 2018, then when would you be doing this study abroad and thru what school??? And what would be funding this?
Is this still your target list of colleges? If so…first off…it is VERY top heavy. Your PSAT on 10th grade was 1450 or something like that. I didn’t even see an ACT or SAT score.
Stay at your new Oregon school for two, years. Take duel enrollment courses if possible. See if the school offers online college courses.
Why don’t you think there is ANYTHING left for you to take?
AND this is supposedly your current class schedule.
And you claim you want to graduate early from HS so you can study abroad.
I’m sorry,.but I think you need to look more carefully at what you are doing.
You can study abroad in college…you don’t need to do,a gap year to do that.
Also…regarding Questbridge…isn’t there a need component for that award? Do you have financial need…or not?
In another thread you said you moved from NJ to OR and the reason you’re running out of courses is because you’re purposely overloading on AP classes so you can graduate early to study abroad. That’s risky to your GPA and won’t make you more attractive to colleges.
Many colleges will consider you a transfer if you study anywhere after high school graduation. There’s not much aid for transfers, so since you need financial aid that’s not a great plan either. How would you pay for a study abroad program if you need lots of aid to study in the US?
The Robertson Scholars Leadership Program DOES NOT require a GC rec - not sure why anyone would think that it does. It requires one recommendation from a teacher (which can be a teacher from your previous school in the academic year you just finished) the additional recommendation can be from anyone of your choosing - preferably someone with some knowledge of your leadership. Do not let people scare you away from applying for The Robertson.
