i'm new to this site and i had a quick question...

I'm a sophomore at La Canada High School (it's like #3,4ish Public School in CA)

I had a perfect GPA first quarter, but screwed up my midterms and ended up with 3 B's on the Semester report card (they were all in honors classes, if that counts for anything...)

Schedule right now:

Honors Chemistry: A
PreCalculus Honors: A first quarter, dropped to 89.4% for semester :-(
PE: screw that
Spanish 2: B --> i have to talk to my teacher; i think she messed up the grades on my final
Honors English 2: B--> nothin much i could do...
AP European History: A

Does this pretty much rule out any chances for high level schools (i've had my eye on Stanford for like....forever)?

I have pretty good EC's:
City of Hope Summer Internship of Stem Cells
Independent research projects with a JPL Chemist
President and Co-Founder of school Chess club
Nationally ranked 'A' player in Chess
Already have ~200 hours of Community service at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Pasadena
AMC 12- Made it to second round (haven't taken it yet...pending)
Qualified for the Center for Talented Youth Program at JHU and did Electrical Engineering at a summer course there in Loyola Marymount University
JV Tennis, should make Varsity by Junior Year...
I've already got a couple of teachers who I've really liked and they loved having me in their classes, so hopefully some outstanding recs.

I took the PSAT this year and got 210 (98th percentile) that can only go up, right?

No SATs right now; SATII's I'll take this year: Chem, Math IIc
Will take AP Euro May 5th hopin' for a 5

I've taken the most rigorous classes my school offers; and i usually do quite well on them.

SO... is there still hope? I am also looking at any of the Ivies, UCLA, UCB, UCSD, any other suggestions for schools that i can work towards?

i definitely don't think you're out of the running- especially for UCs, but be sure to apply to the lower level UCs as well, just in case- they're still great schools, its all just one application anyway. anyway, work hard, you seem quite bright. bulk up on your ECs too!

Any suggestions to spruce it up so I will still be considered?

Also, i forgot to mention, I am a member in NHS, CSF, JSA,
Might run for an officer of Math club next year...
Science fair this year and olympiad next.

yeah. SB, Davis, and Irvine for sure.
Santa Cruz if you really want. its not great though (i live about an hour away from UCSC).
basically just whats been said before: work hard on your scores, try to bring up your GPA as much as possible! but i think davis, etc. would be match schools for you, and thats always important to have on the list.

Dang, but you Indian guys are overly anxious...Now pay attention:

You're a bloody Sophomore. You've got plenty of time to get your GPA up.

A few B's will not put you out of the running for a top school, if that's your goal. You do not need to be perfect.

210 is a pretty good PSAT score for a Sophomore (and anybody else). Your score will almost certainly go up the next time you take the test.

Your ECs are pretty good. I especially like the Chess ranking. That's unique.

HYPS etc. are really tough to get into, and getting tougher all the time. You'll probably need SATs above 2250 and a 3.8 GPA to be competitive even at the least selective Ivy. Ditto Stanford, MIT, and all the schools on that level. And if you don't get the 2250+ and the 3.8 GPA, guess what, there are tons of really excellent, somewhat less selective colleges out there - Carnegie Mellon, Tufts, Vanderbilt, Brandeis, the top UCs, etc. - that would give you a superior education and let you reach your goals.

Referencing 5 above: You don't need to go to HYPS etc., to get where you want to go. Most of us won't and most of us will do just fine.

4.00 @my school which includes PE, which doesnt count anyway...

Plus, anyone know what RSI and SHARP are? I've been hearing about them for a while and wanna know what they are and how they help the transcript.
