I'm currently enrolled at Central Michigan University as a freshman. I'm happy here, but Michigan has always been my dream school and I really, really want to go there still. The only reason I'm not there right now is because my teacher, who was writing my letter of recommendation, didn't get it in on time for early action. According to my high school college counselor and these online "what are my odds?" tests, I would've been accepted had everything gotten in on time. Instead, I was wait listed for regular decision.

I'm happy at CMU, but I'd be happier at U-M and it is a more elite institution. It's my dream school. Obviously, I don't have a college GPA yet, but in high school I had a 3.9 GPA and a 30 ACT. I'm also in the Honors Program here at Central.

What do you think my odds are?

I’m really surprised you didn’t get in RD. Did you do really well your senior year? If you did and Michigan didn’t get to see those second semester senior grades, try again as a first semester freshman transfer. You have a chance that way. Otherwise, get at least a 3.8 at Central and you should be able to get in as a sophomore transfer. Transfer admissions is a much more straightforward process than freshman admissions. Basically the only things that are counted are GPA and credits. If you have at least 55, I believe, credits, high school GPA is completely disregarded. Anyone with at least a 3.7 and 60 credits by the time they are going to enroll as a junior at Michigan will almost always get in. But since your high school record looks pretty strong, you should have a good shot as a sophomore transfer.
Michigan’s my dream school as well and I’m trying to transfer in right now for winter 2012, it sucks that I can’t really do anything else to sway Michigan’s decision one way or another but I guess that can be a good thing as well. Hopefully we’re both Wolverines by 2012. Good luck!

The main reason I didn’t get in, I think, was because of how large the application pool was. Thank you very much for the info! Good luck to you as well!
