Hi. I am in eigth grade too. I think that it's never too early to plan for the future and I'm totally addicted to CC. I am taking Honors Geometry next year. I heard it was hard and an intense workload but I don't know if that's true. Any tips or advice?

It's good to have goals, and i'm glad that you guys do. I wish i had goals in 8th grade, lol...i had no idea i was going to college.

But thats what i loved about 8th grade..the fact that none of those things were in my head....you kinda feel free-without a care in the world.

exactly fsu
8th grade was so fun and carefree.
gosh, i miss middle school
but i can't complain too much-im just a freshman and plan on really buckling down for college in the summer and 10th grade, 9th grade was more about discovering interests and making a plan and having fun for me. ha that probably sounds really stupid

I'm in 8th grade

'sup guys

I fear for our future youth if this is the direction we're moving in. I don't think it's their fault, though. They just do what they need to do to stay competitive.

Actually, it was me, not chaostheory, who wanted to conquer high school. It's working too by the way. Chaostheory is a bit on the lunatic side. (He's lost too many times) 8th graders are a minority here.

Hi Kitty, hi Firelight! I'm taking Honors Algebra 2 next year! If you wanna be friends just give me a heads up. You guys have myspace?

8th graders a minority not for long. 8th graders unite! Lol.

8th graders are cool :)
Just remember not to believe everything you read. Try and find your own values, and act on them rather than absorbing those of other (nutty) CC members. (I can't believe I'm saying this.)
Oh yeah, and stay away from any thread over 10 pages long. (Most of them are flamewars.) Except for this one, which you may find very helpful.

You're all lucky. College Confidential wasn't active when I was in 8th grade. If it were, it would have given me the inspiration to drop out of public schooling such that I would homeschool myself. (though maybe not, since I came to CC in 9th grade). Still, I would have started to prepare for olympiads, AMCs, and SATs earlier. And the next few years really did pass by fast. It really helps to start preparing for them early on, when other obligations don't swamp oneself.

I'm an eighth grader too, but the only reason I read the forums is out of curiousity. I'm an extremely curious person. :-D!! If any other eighth graders wanna talk just pm me.

And http://www.advancedphysics.org/forum/. :)

I'm a senior. I graduate 2 months from today. I became a regular on CC at the begining of my junior year (though my sn has changed).

I know you didn't ask for advice but I really think you should hear this.

I had managed to build up a decent GPA by the end of sophomore year. The college that I would go to all depended on what I would make of myself in the next year and a half. I found CC, like I said, at the begining of junior year. Soon, I decided that Brown was the school for me. I picked a tough course load, got a job and more ECs, and started studying hardcore for the SATs. But in reality, planning for college and searching for that "dream school" is A LOT funner than actually going through the process.

By second semester junior year I was totally burnt out. My grades dropped along with my dreams....but suddnely i was having the time of my life. I brought my grades back up senior year and still mananged to have a great social life, but looking back, I don't regret a thing. I can't remember anything from first semester junior year, but the crazy times I had with my friends after that were unforgettable.

I'm not Brown bound...I didn't even apply. Scoring high on the SATs is a lot harder than you would think. Staying focused through all of high school is even harder. I will be attending a no-name institution this fall and I am absolutely stoked about it. I've never been so excited in my life and I'm so glad that I didn't waste countless hours trying to achieve something unachievable (we're poor and Brown and the other "prestigious" schools that stole my heart aren't big on financial aid).

So pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee....do what you love throughout high school. You can't spend 4 years of your life dreaming about something that might never happen...or if it does it could be a huge let down. Basically, just remember to live in the moment while you plan for the future.

i have one piece advice for you: it will be your freshman so have fun and build a solid gpa from the start!

Wow I was just trying to get to know people my age but then this turned into the advice thread... and that's just fine!

Wow, why would you ask to meet random 8th graders on an online forum, that's not weird or dangerous...try spending some more time outside instead of on your computer, meet some real kids your age, and have some fun.

Oh, and another thing you should know about this forum: many people here (obviously) are very different from, and much smarter than those you'd normally meet in real life. Just because you see seven pages of posts talking about people who just got accepted to RSI doesn't mean you have half a chance at it (it's a free, extremely selective summer program for research-oriented high school students). Nor does it mean you should be disappointed if you don't get in (because again, many programs lusted after on these boards are extremely selective). Continue to judge yourself by your own metric, not by those of students on CollegeConfidential.

Seems like an obvious point, but I think it's worth restating.

Just be careful about taking courses from there. If you decide to do so, be sure that you really know the subject and don't just know enough to get an A. (I managed to get an A in Algebra I from EPGY without really knowing the subject well, so the classes may have dubious standards.)

Art of Problem Solving is awesome, though.

colege: Excuse me but I already know kids my age not just online. I have a life. I appreciate others advice about studies but not about my personal life, which you know nothing about.

Don't get wrapped up in this so young. I admit that I am addicted even though I am only a sophomore and I regret it. Have some fun while you still can.
