Assume that essays are in the upper-echelon--not to toot my own horn, as a few people seem to do here, but writing's my thing; my recommendations are coming from a counselor I'm quite close to, an English teacher that loved me to death (put me #1 on his "big board" for most likely to kill the AP test), and a Gov't teacher who thinks I could run for the White House one day (no kidding. love that man). Pulling off what would be a 4.71 GPA this semester, which would bump me up about 20-30 spots in my class...

Thanks, yooo.

Well the average GPA is a 3.8, and you have a 3.0. No offense, but you do the math.

I think you have a fair chance. I’m not really sure how to tell what a good SAT score is since the state of michigan doesn’t require students to take it, but that ACT score is really good for someone with ADHD. You have a great number of EC’s and awards that distinguishes you from other applicants. The only thing that doesn’t look good is that 3.02 GPA, but since you have ADHD, they would probably take that into consideration. Remember: They aren’t just looking for a high GPA and a High ACT/SAT score. When I went to an admissions session, the speaker told us that someone with a 36 ACT and an unweighted 4.0 GPA was denied because they lacked EC’s. Keep that in mind…

what college you applying to?

I’m applying to LSA (poli sci + econ, eventually).

20% chance. they deferred people with 4.0s… i doubt they will accept someone with a 3.0

@lindsyoxo “20% chance. they deferred people with 4.0s… i doubt they will accept someone with a 3.0”
You have no clue who they will or won’t take. For you to just say 20% chance based on the sole reasoning that “they deferred people with 4.0s” is utter BS. Michigan deferred so many people this year, because 1. They’re anticipating 40,000+ applications this year. 2. Last year they let to many people in EA that they could not take as many people as they wanted for rolling decisions. I’m sick and tired of you trolling these threads as if you are the end all be all for Michigan decisions. You got deferred just like a lot of other people (including me) so just sit back and wait for your final decision to come out, and stop making other people feel like **** because you didn’t get in. This kid has just as much of a chance as most other kids because of his outstanding leadership and participation in EC’s. Kudo’s for you Wiz, you deserve to get in, unlike lindsyoxo.

^^^That’s pretty harsh thebigTZ. I hope all who are qualified and REALLY want to attend Michigan get in. The people that really bother me are those that apply to the school, have obsolutely no desire to attend U-M, and then mock it here on CC when they aren’t given a favorable admission notification.

^i saw this coming sooner or later… I felt like posting it a couple times, ha

hahahah thebigtz, my guy!

the kid asked a question… i gave him my opinion… everyone is entitled to their opinion… just like you are to yours. and i am not “trolling” anything. and i am not trying to make anyone feel bad. I hope he gets in, but people gave me false hope and told me i was a “shoe-in” and i got deferred… so i do not want that to happen to him as well.

back to the subject, I really want u to get in and I think u really do have a great shot. I got in and I had like a 3.5 unweighted gpa, and had less impressive ec’s than u by a lot. Also, ACT score only 33. Good luck! :)

so if you wanted to make me cry… goodjob.

You should have a great shot. High test scores, great ECs. Your GPA is low, but class rank is okay, so I’m guessing you go to a tough school. Good luck!

lindsyoxo gave a statistically accurate opinion of Wiz’s chances, TZ. She’s being helpful, and the only trolls we generally see on this board are dookies. Calm yourself down.

actually, parchment put me at 71%… and they have data to back that up. the common dataset also said the class of 2014 had a 25-75 for the ACT of 27-31, which I seem to clear quite easily. what stats does she have?

‘Statistically accurate’ for an opinion is actually not ‘statistically accurate’… I definitely think you have a shot at getting in. While your gpa is low, you have a lot of things that balance that out - including great test scores and lots of ECs. The only think I’m somewhat concerned about is you managing to pull a 4.71 your last semester - what stopped you from getting that the first six semesters? While some see that as improvement, it can also come off as slacking off. Make sure to have phenomenal essays and rec letters.

Also, Parchment gave me a 99% chance (…what) and I got deferred. So even if they say they have data to back it up, don’t rely too heavily on that…

@CYU, I didn’t start treatment for my ADHD until August. Seems like that worked. hahahah.

Just to reply to you @lindsyoxo, no one is a “shoe-in” for UofM. That’s the biggest problem with everyone being disappointed. Early Action was intended to allow the better candidates to get their decision before the Ivy Leagues sent their decisions out. This way the candidate could make a decision as soon as they got their decision from Yale, Harvard, etc. No one should be disappointed for being deferred. UofM is just looking for the right people. Maybe your essays weren’t quite what they were looking for, although you seem to think they were God’s gift to writing.
