Reflection
Strengths: essays
Weaknesses: GPA GPA GPA. I was a lazy underclassman and I regret that so much. Also, weak community service.
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: my essays? Really don’t know. I was in all of U of M’s “averages” so I guess the application as a whole was good.
Where else you are applying or have already applied: University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota (accepted w/ almost full ride), University of Alabama (full ride), Loyola University - Chicago (full ride), NYU, Tulane, Yale, Columbia, UPenn, Harvard (deferred), University of Miami
General Comments/Advice/Hindsight:
Don’t apply to so many schools lol. Well, really, don’t apply to schools you don’t know much about. I basically picked names out of a hat or submitted ones that offered me a free application because I was a “preferred applicant”. The process wasn’t bad because I had four or five essays at my disposal that tended to be easily adjustable for different supplements, but sending all your scores and transcript and everything takes MONEY. I prob spent at least $600 or $700 on applications. Never realized it was so expensive lol. Also, go with your gut. If you can’t see yourself at a school, don’t apply.

Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Obscure state?

Reflection
Strengths: unique essay, test scores? (altho SAT II and AP sucked)
Weaknesses: Asian, originally engineering major but switch to LSA stuff (but I explained why I did this sufficiently in the Why college essay), test scores (especially that 4 in Envi Sci and 740 for chem)
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: see strengths
Where else you are applying or have already applied: applied to Stanford early but was rejected. I’m still working on RD schools…
General Comments/Advice/Hindsight:
I initially applied to UMich as safety, but then realized that it’s super hard to get in for Early action, so I’m glad! Now I don’t need to apply to any other safety schools!!! SAVE MONEY, OH YEAH!!!
Make sure to shine in your essays. And foremost, FINISH YOUR EARLY ESSAYS BEFORE SCHOOLS STARTS (seriously, I literally slept for 3 hours a day for 2 weeks before early apps were due) And you need to really demonstrate why UMich is a perfect fit for you in the last essay. Do your research and include lots of details. Now I’m back to finishing RD schools…
