I’m very confused

So I was waitlisted on March 30 at CU Boulder when I applied for engineering. I accepted my spot on the waitlist, and they said that they’d start releasing waitlist acceptances, if available, in June.

I just got an application status update today that I’d been accepted off the waitlist, not for engineering - the major I applied for and assumed I was waitlisted for - but for exploratory studies.

I’m very confused… on my application page it said I was waitlisted for engineering but then they end up taking me off the waitlist 2 months early for Exploratory Studies???

Can anyone tell me what my next steps should be if I want to attend for engineering or why they even did this.

You need to contact University of Colorado at boulder admissions office.

@LittleLiam I would call the admissions office tomorrow and discuss it with them so you have a clear idea of what is going on. Good Luck!

How do you plan to pay for this school?

same here, i feel like they only waitlisted me because I would’ve qualified for a high merit scholarship and they ran out of scholarship money by the time they got to my application. this school seems shady…

it likely means they don’t have a spot for you in engineering, but this gives you the opportunity to go there and work towards transferring in to the engineering school.

this should help explain it. https://www.colorado.edu/exploratorystudies/welcome-cu-boulder

DS was accepted (EA) into Pre-engineering, but then kept getting Welcome to Exploratory Studies emails. Pre-Engineering is part of ES.

@pharie There are no high academic scholarships for in state students at CU Boulder. The highest one can get is
half off the in state tuition, unless you are a Boettcher Scholar, and thats only 20 boys and 20 girls in all of Colorado.

If you are out of state, most student pay full out of state price. There is little merit money and NO financial aid for out of state students in Colorado.

For sure CU Boulder does not waitlist high stats students. The reason you did not get into engineering is probably your math SAT or math ACT score, your math classes, your lack of physics classes, or other factors in your record.
CU has little time to read essays, they have GPA and ACT requirements. If in doubt call the school and ask why you were waitlisted.

@Coloradomama I was waitlisted with a 32 act and 33 STEM score :frowning:

I think you got accepted into pre-engineering… many students do.
