I was actually phoned??? For my interview for a school and I didn’t pick up because I was in class so the interviewer got my voicemail. Problem is, my voicemail was set in 7th grade. So it was one of those joke voicemails for my pals? Like “hi this is zeezeebee wanna hear something cool? This is a voicemail! Please leave a message after the beep!” And my interviewer heard that so… Feel better about yourselves and your interviews friends!
Note that there was a pause after I said my name so I could pretend there was an actual conversation going on. I am deceased.
Oh no! Let us know if you get another call or not :))
@Jpgranier I have to call her back!!
It makes for a humorous conversation starter Work it.
Check out my “funny MIT interview” thread.
Daughter had a phone interview at school, too. She reserved a room in the guidance office to take the call but then forgot there was a time difference. She waited around, no phone call. Interviewer calls her during class, she forgot to turn off volume, and she has to tell the teacher that she has to take the call and runs out of the room. She has the interview in the hallway and they “argue” over the timing of the phone call, until the interviewer connects the dots that there is a two hour time difference. She was sure she wasn’t getting in, but she did! Like Mathematical said, it could inure to your favor. Good luck!
@educateddarcy that’s a really funny story as well! mine wasn’t as bad (it was just a notification to try to set up an interview, not an actual interview), but that’s honestly still quite funny. congrats to your daughter for getting in anyway!
Great story, I think it shows you have personality, even if it is of a 7th grader! I am going to ask my D to check her greeting since besides interviewing, every school asks for a phone number these days. Thanks!
This topic inspired me to change my voicemail.
@superbowser12 go. be the change you wish to see in the world.
good news fam! i talked to my interviewer again and we set up a time to meet. she doesn’t seem to be too mad, so here’s hoping the actual interview goes well also!!
Gee, maybe I can persuade my daughter to SET a greeting on her voice mail. Since she would rather die than actually talk to someone on the phone…
That is funny. I’m sure the caller got a kick out of it:)
@Gatormama , do we have the same kid? To any students reading, be sure to provide your home landline too, or a parents’ phone number. My D had calls to both her cell and landlines from various colleges. This will be especially important if you are on a waitlist.
Important safety tip, @Lindagaf ! I can’t see my daughter answering any calls that don’t say “Mom” or “Dad” on them.
Fair point, but usually the call is identified by a location, and sometimes the name of the institution. For example, when D was called for a WL offer, it actually said the town and state. So she knew if had to be the college, and it was. A call to our landline also identified the town and state.
good news guys!! i had my interview today and things went well! my interviewer seemed to think my voicemail was funny and showed my personality. i still changed it though. thanks 4 the prayers xoxo
hey guys its me again! so i actually got into this nameless school, haha! imma credit my amazing voicemail for this lovely achievement, thanks to everyone for calming me down.
